We are planning to groom (I am the president of the Golden Snowmobile Trail Society) as early as next week so that means we will not be charging a trail head fee until friday of next week (December 7th, 8th , 9th). Gorman will maintain at least one groom a week (if not two) for the duration of the season and gate attendants will be there Fri/Sat/Sun until the spring. We are also looking at grooming SILENT PASS next week as well. The groom start kilometer is yet to be determined however we have been assured by Canfo (forestry company) that they will be maintaining the road all season long!! HUGE News!! Very happy!! There we go. A useful update about grooming!!
OH and there were questions about Heli closures in Quartz. It varies every year based on demand. From what we gather anytime before December 1st is find and anytime after April 15th is usually ok. Heather Mountain Lodge (Great Canadian Heli Ski) hold the tenure for that terrain and we'll contact them in the spring and get a concrete date.

Rode quarts Friday and Saturday. Trail was great in and out little bumpy on the way out . First day it was so cloudy to do anything out there in the alpine so we spent the day in the trees. Lots of fun founds lots of untouched deep snow. Saturday we took a non groomed road in to quarts that turned out to be a stuck fest and creek jumping, what a blast . It was great to get the new xm out and what a machine tons of power and effortless turning can't wait to get out again

nice job on the hot food in the parking lot

since its still early season we're hiking for our snowboard laps.
Dakota may not like riding on a screaming 1000cc 2 stroke,
but she sure as hell doesn't want to be left at home

Was up @ Quartz yesterday (Sunday Dec. 2nd). Vis was poor, and was snowing hard all day and when we left. Wish I was there today or 2morrow after less traffic and more acculumation. Did some snowboard laps on Rolly Polly, seen some storm slabs that had slid above the cut-across/shortcut over to the saddle area. Rider triggered on a north aspect from other snowboarders earlier in the day. Crown was 20-30cms and ran for about 100m into a gully terrain trap, triggered from a convex roll. Went over to Cabin valley, seen a few more isolated storm slab releases from the first ridge on riders RHS heading deeper into the valley/park boundry. Sledder triggered this time. avalanche.ca was pretty bang-on with thier Purcell MTN's bulletin, which are now up and running fyi. Ride safe and educated everyone. Lots of tracks all over the easy to ride areas, and bottomless in the tighter more technical areas. the creeks were open all over (heading in beside the catrack and in cabin valley). We were the second last group out of the zone last night. Typical day @ quartz early season.

Cabin was a mess with empties and other junk. Next time I'm in there I'm gonna take a couple full garbage bags of empties out with me and cash them in for $50-100 to partially offset my annual trail-pass. One mans trash is another mans treasure.

I had a bag in my back pack - forgot all about it until I was putting stuff away last night! For a "Pack out what you pack in" rule.... a tonne of ppl sure seemed to leave their garbage in that cabin! Kind of unbelievable!! Why is it so difficult for ppl to take their empties with them??

i personally have no problem with what i saw in the cabin all the cans were in a trash bag not laying all over. and i can't see the sled club having a fit should be easy for the groomer to pick up and take back for the deposit.
