in 35 yrs at my shop and the shop I help out now i have changed a few hundred Ford spark plugs in 4.6 and 5.4 and V-10s..broke off a few dozen,.But now I am using special carbon softening spray chemical. I crack the plugs 1/8 of a turn, spray this new crap in the holes and let sit overnight. They dont break off anymore using this crap.

But Why would you want a 15 mpg Ford pickup when you can get 25 with a CHEVY? my 99 with 480,000 5.3 auto 25 mpg at 110 all day long,.wife gets dam near 30,she drives 95..
my 99 Z71 with overiszed 17 rubber gets 20 ..why buy a FORD?
I would NEVER EVER recommend a DORF to anyone ever again.
my 80 Ford F-350 Tow Truck had a 300 Six ,that lasted 750,000 on Propane, after 86 they turned to Crap,

and those Ford Diesals, if not for those, this shop I am helping out at would go broke? wow, what a bunch of Crap they are...they will pull small houses on trailers, but dont seem to last long.

Never seen a chev get over 20mpg unless going down hill. Me and a buddy of mine both have 03 1\2tons, i have a f150 7700 and he has a gmc 1500 gfx. I average around 14-15he gets 15-17, I have bigger rubber and rear diff in my truck so I figure I'm doing pretty good.

I would definately go with the 5.4. I have owned both 4.6's and 5.4's and found that the gas mileage was the same or better on the highway with the 5.4. The 4.6 was a little better in town but overall the 5.4 is the preffered motor in my opinion, especially if you do plan on towing a bit. The 4.6 could handle what you are towing without a problem but on resale as well you would be further ahead with the 5.4. It was a great motor and best of luck with your search.

I had a 97 f150 with the 4.6 good on gas, Hauled 2 sleds or quads on a 2 place sled trailer no prob. Anymore weight than that and I could sure notice it. Did the front end around 250k. Never had any other work done to it. Sold it to my old man with 380k, its got way over 400k now and still tickin. Its a farm truck now. Oh ya and it started in fort mac when it was -56 outside and hadnt been plugged in for a couple days. and thats my experiense with the 4.6L

i was sitting here at the airport waiting to head to Cali for the weekend. wondering how the heck this guy gets 30 mpg with his chevy while the ford is only getting 15:confused::confused: it just wasn't makin any sense. then all of a sudden it hit me, the chevy was sitting on the trailer that the broken down Dodge, that was getting towed by the Ford, was originally pulling.:d:d:beer:
