F150 question 5.4 L or 5.0 L

I would run far away from the 5.4 unless you like changing engines!

Loved my 5.0, good power and not horrible on gas either. Kicked my friends 5.4L on mountain trips for sure!

You could get a fairly new low km '13 for what your budget is, definetely a '12. If that's the case and you do some looking and want newer, the 5.0 is a great choice. My personal experience with the two dozen '10's that I bought was limited to rear clutch packs and minor issues found straight across the board in every make and model. No issues with manifolds either. Regular maintenance and looking after your investment, I'm convinced it'll last longer. There will always be exceptions to the rule, but I can say that I have had good luck with both options.

True, being that it's underpowered for a truck that's 3000# heavier. I was there myself.

It's funny that this motor was a so-called "lemon", despite it being in the best selling pickup, for 13 years.

A new better design was built, of course it will be better, but that's how all things go... trucks, sleds, computers...
