Hello All;

I am current Chair of ARTA and would like to tell all about the Peace River Trail that we have been working on. The upgrades started just north of Athabasca, at a place called Sawdy. From there we upgraded over 60km of multi use trail based on new Alberta Parks and Rec guidelines. This is a trail for for families to use and for motorized and non motorized users, with similar guidelines as the Ironhorse Trail. We are still in the construction stages ( needing signage etc but the main trail upgrades are about complete. If you go to Face Book and type in Athabasca Recreational Trails Association - you will see the work that we are doing to enhance and promote safe recreational trails. We are currently planning our grand trail re-opening for labour day weekend in Smith.

Its one year later and we had to cancel our opening last year due to the significant levels of rain we received. It washed out sections of trail that needed a lot of repairs. We did mange to have it this year in Smith. If you go to our facebook page - Athabasca Recreational Trails Association - you will see some pics of the event. We had the Western Canadian Horse and Wagon folks travel all the way from Athabasca to Smith using the historic Peace River Trail. First time in almost 100 years. If you are looking for a map on how to get to it's trail head - please contact me through our facebook page ( Rob Woito ) or email at rwoito@telus.net. This trail is open to the public and we encourage people to use it in a safe and responsible manner. It is managed by volunteers and no charge for using it.

Thanks Bearb8 may try to check this area out. How many km is the trail? Is there any other trails in the area that take off from this trail? This is part of the Trans Canada Trail?
