Item number 6 on this exploded Arctic Cat driven clutch.
What is it? What function does it serve?
The parts breakdown lists it as "Spacer p/n 0648-827"

if it slides over the shaft its probably there to cut noise from a vibrating spring. I have no experience with cat clutches but if thick enough I could see it as somewhat of a way to reduce coil bind in sec spring.

It's the update they did to prevent the secondary from shifting out too far and pulling the belt down too far into the secondary. It was part of the update done to deal with the belt issue some people were having.

As said above, it is designed to limit how far the secondary shifts out. If your clutching is correct with proper parallelism and offset, and you don't trail ride your mountain sled, it isn't needed. Most guys cut it down in size or toss it completely.
