My back upper molar snapped the back and side off around a filling and theres not enough depth to put a crown. Dentist says best to pull it, possibly lower one below it will start lifting cause it has nothing to push against.....
I can get a fake screwed into my jaw....$3000 no coverage. Or about half price from university being all other teeth are healthy.

Im hesitant to pull it. At least not noticeable when i smile and look like a hill billy..... Not in the cards for the insert, maybe a year or two...

Thoughts?

I'd get it pulled. I just got an implant 1.5 years ago, had a denture for a while from a hockey incident. If no one can see it who cares. Maybe down the road get an implant.

Implant done last week now wait for a couple months for jaw and gum to heel up then the tooth gets installed. All started many years ago and didn't look after it at the time. Implant and tooth just about 6 gs!! Gotta be crazy I know but if I would have looked after it right the first time I wouldn't be here. Teeth are good and want to keep em that way.. Getter fixed properly once and for all!! This one will be goin to the grave with me.

Pull it! I got a couple pulled do to the same reason. Top teeth have smaller roots and pull easy. Bottom teeth are a different story they hang on really good. After awhile don't even know they are gone.

Did you get a second opinion on the crown? Another option to explore.

Nope, friend of mines the dental assistant and she said the dentist does things others wont. So if there was any kind of chance he would crown it where others wouldnt. The back cracked off so low the gums over top of it.

If i could pull it myself i would. Dont want to break it more than it is. I asked even if they can root canal it and shave the sharpness down and put a filling on it so it would be like a ground down tooth but it wont work eather.

Exact same situation here too. Just about at the point where I can get the crown put on. Tooth had cracked and I did nothing about it. Tough guy. So ended up needing to be pulled. Implant is expensive, but it takes several steps over many months to completion. Should be worth it in the end and I now watch my teeth more closely.

With the break below the gum line you could be asking for more trouble down the road if you don't do something about it.

I had the option of a bridge but after doing some research it seemed one could end up paying for a bridge twice and have other minor issues over an implant. Price of an implant is hard to swallow, but it has been spread out over a year.

I WAS MISSING A TOOTH FOR MANY YEARS, AND WAS WAITING FOR THE RIGHT TIME TO HAVE IT REPLACED. UP HERE SEVERAL DENTISTS TOLD ME ANYWHERE FROM $3500 TO $8000 TO GET A STUD PUT INTO MY SKULL AND A TOOTH MOUNTED ON THAT AND IT'S NOT COVERED BY OUR HEALTH PLAN AT THE SHOP

ONE DAY, WHILE IN PALM SPRINGS AT MY BROTHER IN LAWS PLACE, WE DROVE ACROSS INTO LOS ALGODONES, SOUTH WEST OF YUMA, AND MY SISTER INLAW HAD HER TEETH CLEANED ETC, SO I THOUGHT HEY, WHY NOT, I'LL GET MY TEETH CHECKED. THEY ESTIMATED AN IMPLANT OUT AT $1000.00 CASH, SO WE PROCEEDED(MORE MONEY TO SPEND ON SLEDDING :)). THEY XRAYED, ETC, AND PUT THE ANCHOR INTO MY SKULL AND 6 MONTHS LATER WENT BACK DOWN AND HAD THE STUD AND TOOTH INSTALLED. VERY, VERY HAPPY WITH THE JOB.

IF YOU'VE NEVER BEEN TO LOS ALGODONES, IT IS A SMALL TOWN ON THE MEXICO SIDE OF THE BORDER, AND THERE ARE DOCTORS, DENTISTS AND OPTOMETRIST OFFICES AND DRUG STORES EVERYWHERE. ALL THE OFFICES ARE VERY CLEAN AND ALL THE LATEST TECHNOLOGIES AND THE DOCTORS AND DENTISTS AND OPTOMETRISTS AND PHARMACISTS ARE ALL TRAINED IN AMERICAN UNIVERSITIES, AND SOME ARE EVEN AMERICAN. A LOT OF RETIREES HEAD THERE ESPECIALLY THROUGH THE FALL, WINTER, SPRING MONTHS. THERE IS A VERY NICE CASINO/HOTEL ON THE AMERICAN SIDE THAT WE STAYED AT(GORGEOUS FACILITY AND POOL AND GREAT CASINO), WHILE I HAD MY TOOTH PUT IN. ALSO HAD 2 CROWNS INSTALLED(EXTRA $300.00).

I WOULDN'T HESITATE TO RECOMEND THIS TO ANYONE NEEDING TEETH WORK NOT COVERED BY THEIR PLAN, OR EYEGLASSES ETC. FOR YOU OLDER FOLKS VIAGRA DOWN THERE IS LIKE $.99 A PILL OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT. MAKE A HOLIDAY OF IT AND STAY AT QUECHAN RESORT OR STAY IN YUMA(SHORT DRIVE). WE WALKED ACROSS THE BORDER AND WIFEY AND FRIENDS SHOPPED AND HAD LUNCH WHILE I WAS AT THE DENTISTS.

WHEN TOOTH GOES ON, IT IS A 2 DAY EVENT. FIRST DAY IS PUTTING THE STUD INTO THE ANCHOR AND MEASURING FOR A TOOTH, AND THE SECOND DAY WAS INSTALLING AND FITTING THE NEW TOOTH. VERY VERY HAPPY WITH THIS.

HERE'S A LINK TO THE QUECHAN RESORT. IT'S WORTH IT FOR A 3 DAY STAY :)

Just get it pulled. I'm missing the next one forward from that, on the top. Broke while eating a pistachio. Ended up getting the root yanked out at the same time I was getting my wisdom teeth yanked at the oral surgeon. You can't tell I'm missing it unless I open my mouth completely.

As far as Los Algodones for dental work like Ric mentioned, I wouldn't hesitate at all. My parents winter in AZ and a pile of people they know have had work done there and never a problem. Amazing how most less that work costs when they don't need to pay through the nose for insurance, etc.

Pull it and let it heal. It will only get worse if you leave it. You can always use a "flipper partial" if you want the space filled for now until you can have it repaired. Hope all goes well for you. Cheers
