Any one with any more info on the road? Got the word Chatter is not doing sledding this year. Looking at getting up into Hope by next weekend. Please let me know of any info you know.

thanks

Haven't heard of anyone going in recently. They have closed the road to everyone, even Chatter. I guess you can take your chance and park at or near the closure and ride from there, but word is there have been some recent fines. There were quite a few sleds still getting in there over the winter, but sounds like they could be enforcing it more now. We've heard the road is in very bad condition too. Good luck!

I heard that Golden's forestry personel are currently undergoing peace officer training as we speak. You can expect to see them enforcing all laws in the forest ie going past closed off roads, speeding, insurance and registration, etc.

It'll take more than a drive out there to find 'real answers' -not exactly an information booth there for you. Maybe call the MOF. You drive out there, you'll find what the rest of us did...totally blocked off road indicating you pass it you are breaking the law and can be fined! Might be a guy there when you go that'll offer some conversation, otherwise a waste of a trip. Anyone going out there isn't talking about it...or respecting the closure and not going so it doesn't reflect negatively on sledders. Hard to gain respect for our sport when we disrespect the work of others. As much as we may disagree, there are ways to get results, and ways not to. Lots of areas to ride without 'p'ing of the powers that control our access to the backcountry.

From Chatter letter, in case you haven't seen it...
"Two days ago, the Ministry of Forestry sent us a notice that the "B" Road, our Forest Service access road, is being shut down completely and immediately. We have had conditional and sole permission to use this road all winter, using strict protocols and we had also gained permission to run a sledding season. We had been given permission to "escort" our snowmobile guests down the road on a daily basis but this is no longer the case.
The safety issue at hand is a section of road known as the "Rock Cut" (at approximately 50 Km) which has been deemed unstable with a rock-fall hazard. It was reassessed last week, by a geotechnical engineer who has ordered the shutdown. Chatter Creek sincerely apologies for this development and we have done everything in our power to try and ensure that the road stays open. We apologise for the short notice for a trip that has taken a lot of planning and that you were all looking forward to, but as you can appreciate the circumstances are beyond our control.
We are working hard to resolve this issue so we can invite everyone back for next spring. A lot of you have been sledding with us for numerous years and we hope that you continue to support us..."
