Anti theft gps tracker??

Looking for a gps tracker to hide on my truck,trailer and sled. Just wondering what people are using. I see the SPOT trace tracker but it has to be out in the open which is kind of obvious to someone stealing a truck or trailer.

Yes except you have to mount it the on the outside of your truck and trailer. I'm assuming it would have to be on the roof of the trailer to be out of sight of theifs but climbing on the roof all the time, not fun. And it would be in plain sight on a truck too.

I have been using / testing a Spot Trace for a few years now. I love it, so I'll share what I have experienced.

First of all, it doesn't necessarily need to be out in the wide open, I have had great results with it hidden:
-under the hood of my snowmobile in several locations
-somewhere under the bodywork of my dirt bike
-under the windshield wiper cowling on my pickup
It seems to be able to retain decent signal through thin coverage of plastic, and fiberglass no problem.

The batteries last through the winter no problem (lithiums) so there should be no need to gain access to it very often. I replace the batteries 2x a year... pretty much as I am switching it from winter toy to summer toy and vice versa. If you set it up right, it will send you messages when the batteries get low enough that it is about to power down.

One of the best things about the Trace, is that it runs purely on GPS, no cel service is required.

It can be inside as long as there is no metal between it and the sky. I have a 24' v nose that has the fiberglass front. Spot Trace works perfect inside against fiberglass roof. I have one on my wildcat trail. It wouldnt work under aluminum roof but will under plastic hood. Every day at same time both spots send me text that they are funtioning and with location so I can see were it is. Even when the wind blows hard it sends me text saying it sences movement. I sat in my sxs and it sent a text. I gotta lose some weight. When they are moving it breadcrumbs a trail every 5 or 10 minutes. I lent the trailer to a buddy last year. He went to Rev for weekend. I could see in real time my trailer going there, then the hill, then parked at hotel. They were suposed to come back on Tuesday but the traier was comming back to Edmonton Sunday night 1am. I was up so I figured I would meet my trailer around Wabumun going by its movements. Couldnt get ahold of buddy so I figured it was being stolen. Right at Wab there goes my trailer toward Edmonton. I turn around and follow. Get beside it and at 2am seen buddy driving with a stunned look on his face as he sees me. Sleds broke down so they came home early. I think its worth it to have the trackers.

Another vote for the Spot. I keep mine under my seat and it works just fine. If I fire up the quad next to the sled I get a text saying there's been movement so it's pretty sensitive.

You can also buy an auxillary wiring harness to have it run off the 12volt battery in the machine as well so you don't have to worry about changing the batteries.

Spot trace works well had one on my quad for years.. I found it a little flaky in treed areas but thats to be expected. It will operate for 6 months at a time on those expensive AAA batteries it wants, But i also found it will run the same amount of time using the standard AAA batteries. You will just get a msg after a month that the batteries are low but it will still operate. Just a reminder on using the 12v adapter the unit is no longer water proof.

It works under the seat of your vehicle? My sled trailer is aluminum so I'm not sure where I'd put it in that.
