2014 Summit and Freerides rear axel bolts loosening up

Is this a chronic issue on the 2014 mountain sleds?

In our crew we have 4 new Summit X’s and 2 Freerides and all of them have the rear axle bolts loosening up. All were purchased at the same place and their solution is to double up the washers on the bolt with the round sides facing each other to allow slippage, torque to 40 lbs and blue loctite.


Is anyone else having these issues?


Wouldn’t using a lock washer work better?

Same problem today my buddy asked me if I checked mine both sides finger loose!!

I think the two washer thing is not a good idea. Every mechanic will tell you more washers more chance of rattling lose

Just checked mine. One loose and one tight. Going to fix that in a bit.

13 had one washer in the block grove

It's a coned washer


14 have 2, stacked but none in the grove



1 ride on mine, rh side was a bit loose


Took both out and red locktight them blotches

I will tell after tomorrow if they back off again

sent while I should be drinking tea's

I had the right side loosen off mine around a 100 miles or so. I tightened them both sides down real good and they haven't moved since. Didn't bother adding any loctite. Checking over suspension nuts and bolts before or after each ride is definitely not a bad habbit to get into IMO.. The extra 5 minutes it takes out of a day can sure save a pile of hassle mid ride.

Before anyone uses red locktite make sure your track is adjusted properly after break in. I imagine it won't be too fun breaking those loose when its time, especially since its a steel bolt in an aluminum shaft. Use caution not to overtighten, or you may strip the shaft.

Never once have had issues with breaking red locktight free

I'm not saying you won't be able to break it loose, but its a steel bolt in an aluminum shaft that will strip easily. The less you have to loosen/tighten it, the better. I watched a friend strip one of the upper ones, with not much force at all. It was the end of his day, in the parking lot at 8am.
