I beg to differ....the BEST on the market is the Escort Passport 9500ix - approx. $700 in Canada....includes a data base of cities in NA with red light and speed camera's based on gps. You can mark a location of speed traps and it will warn you next time you drive in that location and you can also synch with their website which will in turn inform all other users who have the same system.

But even the best detector does not prevent you from getting a ticket........

I have to disagree with both of you on the best radar detector i have had both the escort and the belltronics one and they are awsome but the best of the best is the valentine one radar detector, and yes laser jammers are expensive but the expression on the cops face when he knows you where speeding and keeps looking at his gun because its not working is priceless, also pays for itself in the first year guranteed!!!

For a detector I run the Beltronics STi Magnum. A bit pricey but is supposed to be the best on the market. Is undetectable as well. Which you Albertanites require. :smiley cop:
I was always sceptical about whether or not they actually worked until I bought one a few weeks back and have busted the fuzz 3 times since.

Also radar detectors are 100% legal in Alberta so are laser jammers

THINK THOSE PLASTIC SHIELDS WORK?

Proven defense against all Photo-Radar and Photo-Laser!
Protect your privacy! Avoid a costly ticket!
Ultra-thin! Fits all license plate frames! Installs in minutes!
Will not yellow! Guaranteed shatterproof!

The all-in-one solution! Protects you from Regular, Overhead, and High angle cameras!
Sizes for all countries available! Get one now!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Also protects high angles
How do photo-radar and photo-laser work?
Special camera and computer technology combine to photograph your vehicle as you drive by, and record your speed. A ticket is then issued and mailed to you. Radar and laser detectors are ineffective due to the narrow beam width and angle across the road. Even if you do detect the beam, its too late. You're caught!
How does the "Overhead PROTECTOR" work?
Photo-radar and photo-laser operate at known angles to the direction of traffic flow. Using a passive, state-of-the-art light-bending lens, the camera is unable to see the plate numbers, and identify your vehicle. The license plate is still completely readable from straight on.

No they don't. The picture angle is at a lesser degree than what that side shield covers. My buddy bought one and he kept getting tickets.

I got one called 'whistler' for Christmas don't think it's a very expensive one, but I love it, I don't speed to much but the odd time I do creep up there, I enjoy catching them hiding before they see me. Easter weekend it was going off a lot and saved me a couple tickets for sure. Doing 90km through the park by banff is tough.

I think you guys who hate speed traps will change your tune after a loved one is maimed or killed by a speeding driver.

Maybe. Then again, how many of us denounce and sell our toys after soomeone we know is maimed or killed on one?

Speed doesn't kill, drivers with attention deficit disorder sure do. If you are in control of a motor vehicle it is your duty to pay attention to driving. When you lack the brains to pay attention, people can and do die.

You are correct speeding can kill you if you are not wise about it, Doing 130 in a double highway when the roads dont have a inch of snow on them is not going to kill you, doing 160 in a 80 zone when its night time and snowing out will.
If the alberta goverment would do a harder test to get your licence you would see alot less of these idiots on the road

Nailed it! I went on a rant about this in that massive crash.
The simplest of things people just don't do, here are my worst offenders!
Use your indicators!! If you plan on changing the direction that your vehicle is travelling, except to follow the direction the lane you are in is going, use that little stalk on the left of your steering wheel, to let everyone else know what you are planning to do.
Speed up to merge, 90% of these lanes are plenty long enough to let you get up to at least 110 kph. Get up to the speed limit of the road you intend to merge on to, then adjust your speed accordingly to join the rest of the traffic. On that note, if you are in the right lane, and see someone on the merge lane, move over if there is space, once they are in the lane, move back.
If you are travelling that same speed, or slower than the person in the lane to the right of you, MOVE OVER to the right! There is no reason for you to be driving 95 kph in the left lane of Hwy 1 or 2. Everyone says that speeding kills, but honestly, these slow driving left laners are more dangerous, as they are never aware of their surroundings, or they just don't care. They could have a line of 10 vehicles behind them, and Peterbilt filling their rearview mirror and they would still have no clue they are holding up traffic.
TURN ON YOUR LIGHTS!!!! I know these days, most vehicles have automatic lights, but I don't think the threshold is high enough for these. If it's raining or snowy out, or even dusk, turn them on. I see so many people driving around the city at night using their running lights only. Come on, man.
Well, that turned into another rant, sorry folks.
I think that the police should be enforcing these more strongly! These are a much larger danger than me driving 58 down Memorial Drive (50 limit) in the middle of a sunny summer morning, which was the last photo radar ticket I got.

Don't buy into it - buddy of mine got stopped by the cops and given a $115 ticket for having an obscured plate because of this POS plastic. Then they found other stuff lol.

it's not worth putting on your plate. just another company wanting to make money of people trying to get away from photo radar.
