We spend a lot of time and money grooming our sled trails. One thoughtless ride on a quad down them right now is very destructive to the groomed trails. Sledders do not appreciate the ruts. The person that rode his quad on the Carson Lake trail yesterday did a fair bit of damage to the trail. It is especially bad this year with low snow and warm temperatures. These are SLED trails not Quad trails. They are posted as such.

You would think it's bad enough that we fight with non-motorized groups over trails and areas to ride, now it's fighting amongst ourselves (motorized users).

Same deal just happened in the Westloick area. What snow they have bwas groomed ready for the ASA Jamboree and a group of quads drove down the trail on Sunday. Now they have to try again $$$$ wasted because of a non-paying group.
I own them both but when there is snow to run I take my sled not my quad.

I was just going to post a question about that. Took the Wife up to McBride Jan27-30th weekend. Our last day we did a run up Bell, and just past the meadows we came upon a quad heading to the cabin. The Quad had tracks on it and obviously they paid their $20.00 trail pass (trail was said to have been groomed night before, but wasn't the best). Anyways I was wondering why it was allowed up. It was impressive seeing how high it could go on Little Bell, but it was leaving some good trenches. Just wondering what others thoughts on this one is?

Ive seen side by sides with tracks on them on boulder a few times now. They make pretty minimal impact to the ground compared to the sleds.

Nothing pees me off more then these guys who have to take their quads down a nicely packed or grommed sled trail.... and they always seem to do it when the temp is up and the snow is soft?? Then their tire ruts freeze solid screwing up the trail..... and the ruts are far from straight to say the least. We have experienced this many times where we ride and it really sucks. I ride quads and sleds, but i would'nt tare up a nice sled trail with my quad. Now if I only had a quad I might be tempted to go out for a ride on those nice groomed trails????? Hmmmmm.... Here's a perfect reason for all quadders to own a sled :)

Our groomed trails are "tracked vehicles only from Dec 1 to April 1". The quads or sideXsides with tracks don't seem to doo much damage. Without the tracks they are a darn nuisance.

We have as much trouble with cars and trucks as we doo from quads. With the low amount of snow in the valley bottom they go for joy rides, get stuck, and generally really screw up the trail.

Tracked quads don't do too much harm. A Jackass on a sled can do just as much damage as an idiot on a tracked quad. Quads have no place on groomed sled trails and yes they can be charged. Last year police stopped two guys in lifted Land Cruisers with huge mudders on them as they came out of our groomed trails area. I didn't stick around to ask what the charges were but they were there for a long time.....and son of a B did they chew the Chit out of the first 5 kms of trails!!!!! One of them got stuck and they finally turned around. Last year I ran a P/U truck right off the road on my sled as he was coming down our trails. He stuffed it in the ditch and I stopped just long enough to tell him that about a km down the road was a parking lot full of sledders waiting for them.

You sound like one of the club reps who was on the news last year or 2 years ago when a bunch of trucks went up Greystokes.

Show me in the motorvehicle act where it states this. I call BS. If so then there are lots of loggers/hunters/firewood gatherers who are illegally accessing the back country every fall/early winter.

I'm not condoning tired vehicles rutting up groomed trails but there's got to be shared use on the non-groomed forest roads. It is Crown land that belongs to EVERYONE in BC. Like my comment earlier it's pretty bad when we are fighting amongst ourselves (motorized users) about accessing the back country. I have a hard enough time dealing with the skiers who think they should have exclusive use of it let alone people who are supposed to be on "our" side.

The sign on the trail that connects peaks to Bezanson has a atv and snOwmibile. Mind you that's most likely for summer. I do not agree with quads rutting up groomed trails where passes are required. I'm also new to the groomed trail system and can already see the work involved. I grew up riding quads all year long but was never in the area of paid groomed trails. It was a free for all.

I'm pretty sure there are quadders out there that just don't realize what damage they're doing by riding on the sled trails. Not everyone on the planet has the ability to forsee what havoc their actions can create. There are many of them out there!

It's not that we are fighting amoung ourselfs on who has the right to ride. I pay my club membership and I buy my TRAIL passes, which entitle me to sled on a groomed well kept hazard free(ish) trail. the money I pay, pays for the groomer. If someone who isn't paying for trail passes, (yes i know some sledders refuse to pay), is out there with any vehicle ripping up the trails chewing in ruts and just being plain disrespectful, there should be penalties. Its costing sledders and sled clubs $$$$$ to keep the trails groomed. and if one club is paying for it then it should only be the "vehicles" that that club supports on those trails.

The way I see it is Quaders have areas to ride spring, summer and fall. Snowmobiles have areas to ride Dec 1 to Apr 1 as long as there is 6" of snow or more. durring that short snowmobile window if someone wants to quad do so, just do so off our paid to be groomed trails.

Our groomed trails are "tracked vehicles only from Dec 1 to April 1".

Un-enforceable in B.C. Club management agreements are non-exclusive use. The worst one's in our area are cougar hunters, but so be it. It's crown land.

This is taken directly from our management agreement:
1.02 Nothing in this Agreement grants to the Agreement Holder the exclusive use and occupancy of the Agreement Area. Existing conditions and land uses of Crown lands within or in the vicinity of the Agreement Area are subject to change including the status of roads, visual landscape conditions and the location and status of existing and new resource tenures.
