Looks like the advice has pretty much been covered here, but do whatever works.

Quit for yourself. Quit for your family. I suggest not quitting for a law cause in my opinion if you need a law to 'make' you do the smart thing then it ain't gonna work in the long run (seperate rant so I'll leave it at that).

I quit twice in my life. The first time cold turkey. That lasted for two years. No issues with other smokers, bars, crowds, no problems.....until I had a bad week. Broke up with my then girl and used that as an excuse to smoke....just one....ya right. smoked for a few more years until I got married. Wife smoked too and had health issues. Didn't have money for bills, healthcare, smokes, and toys so I realized I was smoking a quad payment. Made a deal with myself that I was trading smokes for a Honda. So far thats worked for about 12 yrs or so.

Oh ya I tried nicorette gum and patches. Didn't work for me. It felt like my stomach was always bloating up. Maybe it works for others. Wifes tried patches, gum, zyban, and forced confinement in hospitals. She has a heck of a time quitting, but so far 2 months for her WooHoo!! Congrats to her.

Good Luck

Edit I wiil say this. It seems to me the craving is psychological. With me it was(occasionally still is) associated with situations. Its like a conditioned reflex on top of the physical addiction. The reflex is what was hard for me. Even now I get the (rare) damn that smells good or now it's time for a smoke feeling. Just gotta ride it out, switch tasks, or change direction to get yer mind off it.

If its time you WILL succeed!

Good Luck

If you are really ready to quit then you shouldn't need to use anything, if you're not nothing will help. I've been 7 years next month, cold turkey.

I agree with this totally. My ol'Lady is 40 andd has been smoking since she was 15. I've watched her "quit" at least 10 times in the last 10 years...zyban, patch, gum, cold-turkey...whatever...never lasted more than a week or two. She was finally "ready" and she got the Allan Carr book: Allen Carr's Easy Way to Stop Smoking: Amazon.ca: Allen Carr: Books

She's 7 month's smoke-free last week and doing great. I can puff on cigars and it doesn't bother her a bit. (I will buy a pack every 3 or 4 weeks and puff 'em in the garage....but I consider myself a non-smoker as I sometimes go months without 'em)

I tried dozens of times, tried nearly everything, and failed horribly every time. Now I'm trying again (for the last time) and am having success for the first time. I used patched for the first two weeks just to help take the edge off a bit, but the real difference this time is NO CHEATING - period.

After 21 years of smoking, I can now brag that I haven't had a single (tabacco ;)) smoke in 48 days. The further I get, the more motivating it is becuase I do not want to kill my record and start counting at day 1 again. ...might sound a bit silly, but it's been working for me so far.

I have tried to quit smoking also . and it is tough , ...my wife wants me too quit drinking also , so i did for 6 months , after 6 months i found a beautifull Victory Vegus in red deer .... she said that this was not a good idea as i will only get drunk and kill my self on it . I asked her , do want a happy husband or a drunk husband ?? she could not decide , so i went and bought a 24 pac of KOKANEE :d:beer::beer:

i smoked for years, went to romain the hypnotist, was actually late because we stopped for smokes!!lol it worked for me but requires some willpower!! its a tough thing to quit but if you can make it a week, you can make it two, then three, after four dont ever give in!! best thing ive ever done, EVER. ive had some hardships, business and personal but never ever had "one puff, one smoke". stop it. walk away, change your daily routine for awhile and do it!!

I used Champix to quit it will be a year May 21 of this year I smoked for 35 years. I didn't think I would be able to do it but if you put your mind to it you can. I quit the champex after 3 months they don't tell you how to stop using that stuff. I still get the odd cravings but I use gum or pumpkin seeds to keep my mouth busy.

Good Luck you can DO IT!!

One more month and a year smooke free for me!!

Ya, that was one of my cock knuckle moves too, but I'm pretty sure I can walk away from that without too much of a mourning period.
I don't have a hole dirty enough to put that stuff in LOL
