I drive a 93 f250 with a 7.3 IDI. It only 'rolls coal' loaded pulling steep grades. From what I understand blowing back is extremely hard on the engines internals b/c of the high egts that come with it.

If I wanted to I could use a 5/32 allen wrench and turn up my IP a few flats...that would get her to smoke, but I am not big on wasting fuel.

Yeah I think because it might be fuelling high until the turbo's spool up and the smoke dies down.
