im not to worried about the channel, there is usually a big sign with the proper channel......can you not just tune to that channel on the fly... and the vhf, ive seen marine ones, is that the same thing ?
oh i forgot even the normal vhf radios require a license. but nobody cares about that either!
there are quite a few brands with models that are user-programmable....icon, kenwood, motorola, and some chinese brands as well as the tad M-8 and M-10.programmable radios are called Tad radios. You have to unlock them and then you can just put in the frequency. usually a 10 minute mod. They are illegal but never policed. Its because you can have the police channels in them. I have found that the cops couldnt care less...unless you piss them off and they are trying to "throw you under the bus" but then the roach under your seat would do that!!
The only problem with that, is that we don't know where YOU are.
I always call what I am driving as well, and give the empty loggers right of way when I'm travelling in the loaded direction. also if I clear them on the wrong side I let them know, as most wide spots are on the "empty" side.and learn the lingo.....you are to call "empty" as you go in and "loaded" as you go out....at every kilometer sign.
EX: "empty pickup truck, kilometer 4 on the Paint Lake road" (you would call in and say this as you drive in past the km4 sign in the AM)
If you hear "loaded, kilometer 5 Paint lake!"....it is a rig with logs, and you have about 35 seconds to find somewhere to get outta the way.
