Going to be making a trip to golden in august, just wondering what gorman lake is like in the summer if you can drive a truck up there or if your better off bringing a mountain bike or dirtbike up there?

Hiked in yesterday. Wish I took my sled. Was still tons of snow. Lake is still frozen and covered. Is one of my favorite hikes but was super ugly. Still some good snow melt to go.

You can drive up to the last bridge before the cut block. Here's a link to the Golden Hikes Site. It's quite a bit different up there in summer. I couldn't believe all the huge rocks that are covered even early in the year! Here's a couple of pics from last September.

How easy is it to get around that lake in the summer if you wanted to hike further in?

There is a trail around the south side of the lake. I'm pretty sure I saw a thread awhile ago that Threadkiller was talking about hiking back into Holt and Lang a couple of summers.

I'm thinking hiking with a quad. Threadkiller doesn't do that walking thingy. Bawhaha

Kenny, thought I'd move a couple rocks from trail to Gorman from Lang, hate to see ya twist up a A-arm. DSC00907 (Small).JPG

Here's a picture I took last August with Holt lake in foreground, with the saddle at top right of photo which drops you into Gorman. Oh yea, from where I was a quad or bike can't get there. Definitely a different perpective in the summer when the snow is gone. DSC00885 (Small).JPG

oler1234, beg to differ, which the location or access? Didn't see any tracks on the Dogtooth traverse from the top of kicking horse gondola to gorman, or were you the fellow who accepted the parts I packed out of Gorman and Holt?
