Makes excellent fire starter. Quite stiff so somewhat usable as a splint for a finger or wrist in a pinch.

didn't think of splint? dry place to sit in winter or wet months.

I also carry a bear banger with the additional flairs for signaling. Also keep a emptie beer/pop can with me. Its a great fire starter cut it in 1/2 fill with fuel and light. It will burn for 30-45min and get even the wettest wood to light
