Prices are getting crazy on everything. Sledding is kinda turning into what heli-skiing was seen as years ago. A sport for the wealthy with alot of disposable income; or something you do on credit, and that's just kinda insane as well. Even bunking up 2/room it's $100/night each just for a very average double room now. I look at some of the rigs in the parking lots and the cost is kinda mind blowing. $120K truck/$40K trailer/4 sleds at $30K each; then add in the price of fuel for all the units, hotel rooms, meals, gas station lunches and energy drinks. Not to mention maybe a few wobble waters at the end of the day and it costs real money now compared to even just 10 years ago. :Hammer3:

Very true but I think people spend the money on this hobby because they love to do it, its vacation in my mind. I could go spend 10k on a nice vacation for my family too which is expensive and its usually only a week.
Also nobody has to drive a 100k truck or buy a 30 k snowmobile and haul it in there 40k trailer but they choose too because they can and probably because they love the sport.
Fun can be had with a 5k sled, a 20k truck and haul it in the box. just sayin.

Base camp isnt the cheapest place to stay in Revelstoke.

I stayed at the mnt view in revelstoke for 60$. It is run down, looks like a 60$ room.
Couple sledders and lots of loggers.

Last time i was there it was full of crackheads that the government pays to live there.

Sledding is supposed to be fun, not much fun listening to crackheads fight all night.

So thats when i started going to basecamp.

I cant imagine coming back to a van all soaking wet is much better than the crack shack lol
Cops also drop off people at the Gateway. I stayed there for 20 years plus. Now it’s full of junkies bedbugs rats. Disgusting.

Ive stayed there a couple times. It use to be not too bad. I don't know why Revy of all place's is getting these crackheads shipped in.

Ive talked to a few and they weren't from the area....

lots of problems with transients. A few buds I ride with are cops in Revy. Castlegar and Kelowna. Hands are tied. Careers are over if one dies after an interaction.

At the Mnt View the government is paying for them to be there. It was never fancy, but now its basically a homeless shelter wtf

I was going to say the same thing. A 10K sled even and $1500 sled deck and 20K truck is fairly reasonable. Even gear if you buy used or non-current there is always deals to be had. This is the only way we were riding 30 days a year in our teens and early twenties while going to school. 4 guys in a truck, pack food, fuel, beer from home.

Or how about a 30g snowmobile and a uhaul. Ive seen that before too 🤣

Many revy locals have a nice sled and a 1000$ beater truck.

Lots of different ways you can make it work.

The revelstoke lodge used have great beds and cheap rooms. You had to be under 5ft tall to get your hair wet in the shower. Must have been the Chinese fellas installing the shower heads back in the old railroad days. Im guessing the hotels may have a surprise this year with cranking up the rates. I don't think there will be as many people rolling in as there was over the last few years. guess time will tell.

They get so many Scandinavian and American skiers. They will have no trouble filling those rooms is my guess. With the current exchange rate and the icon pass it is still cheaper to fly here and ski than to go to most big name USA resorts

They're shipping them in from the coast because Vancouver can't handle the volume and can't afford to house them. Welcome to a socialist NDP govt. Casually ship them to become someone else's problem. They used to just let them out of the prison and they'd eventually find their way back to the coast. They did this in a lot in Oliver too after they built the new prison, and eventually the govt bought a motel and converted it to get them to stay, thinking they would become seasonal workers for the orchards. Guess what happened instead? The dealers just moved to the Okanagan. Same thing happened in Prince George.

They're shipping them farther inland now because the municipalities are fighting with the provincial govt to get more funding. Govt knows they can't fund it all because they are broke, so relocate the problem and put their heads in the sand. Trail is going to build them a shelter right next to a daycare because they don't have any more affordable housing. There are at least 6-8 full on year round van / camper set ups at the campground beside the lower Gorman parking lot in Golden right now. Took a drive through there on Sunday and one guy has a mini house in there and a couple cords of wood stacked up. Things are going to get worse before they get better unfortunately. Lock up your sh!t when sledding this season.

If we fed the homeless to the hungry we could solve 2 problems at once…

This thread brings back some amazing memories. We used to drive 14 hours from Regina to Revy. 4 in a truck with a 4 place trailer loaded. Stayed at the Powder Springs Inn. They had sledders rates. They used to charge per person and it was $13.00 per night per person and it included a buffet breakfast in the restaurant they had there. The rooms were a dump but they had kitchens in them and they would let us use their big commercial clothes dryer to dry our gear every night. The buffet was actually decent too. Had eggs, pancakes and all the bacon you could eat. My one buddy was a bacon freak and he would eat $13.00 worth of bacon every breakfast LOL.. We knew at the time that they were losing money every time we showed up but they kept the pricing for a few years before they increased it. I remember one year laughing because we called and they apologized for increasing the rates to $20.00 per head per night and it still included the breakfast LOL. You couldn't live at home for what it cost to stay there. Is that place still there?
