I started this thread about the kids 98 670 summit since it don't make sense to start a new one every time I need a question answered.......so keep coming back because I will have many! lol 1st) when did the summits loose the long metal rib to plastic ski? 2nd) did they not come with a factory mountain bar in 98? 3rd) did the 98 670 come stock with a "progressive" throttle leaver? 4th) what is stock jetting? do they run slightly fat....even with the HACC? 5th) any clutch secretes? I'm looking for a 151-159 track with the stock 2.52 pitch and a reverse kit!

I think the summits may have come with a strap on the bars in 98 or the all metal jaw breaker handle bar
Not sure on the 98 stock jetting as my 96 is running pods ( going to install a holtzman Atacc )
Best clutching secret I have seen is a Polaris p85 primary and cat roller secondary ( installing this setup this weekend ) running a 156" track on 151 rails from a 2002 ski doo donor sled ( any skid up to sc3 should work )

'98/'99 the mountain bars had the strap...... '97 was last year of the steel ski with the plastic covers...... never had a progressive or 2 stage throttle lever, however they were available aftermarket and at one time bombardier had them........ leave them to run a little fat, or you can melt down a 670 in no time.... if you have the 670x it is the high output engine and works great. I had the dj clutch kit and pulled hard, and even tried pipes and gearing etc. went up to a 151" and ran very hard

You probably will not be able to gear the sled correctly with the reverse kit. I'd go 19/44 or 45 (assuming 9 tooth). Put a purple/purple in the primary and some adjustable pins with a cat secondary, 47 or so helix and a r/w spring.

You are going down a road of diminishing returns, just ride the thing stock like we all did 15yrs ago. A 670 with a 12yr old kid on it will probably be just fine. IMO of course.

it has the 2 inch track so I think it has the 8 tooth drivers(I still have to count lol).....so that will bring the gearing down a bit....

The X has the purple head or just take the serial# and check with BRP.

Pretty sure all of the 670's had a purple head there is a small x stamped between the spark plug holes an there is a sensor on each side of he coolant hose

The 583 motors had. Red head

yes all 670 had the purple head.....583 were red...and I think it was the 500 that were yellow......I think I remember a blue head.....what was that on? funny when the 670 was the biggest in the ski-doo line up.....and a 720- and a 740 were big power......I remember when a 670 turbo was crazy power.....now what is power?.......its just money!

image.jpg I got a 97 summit 670 with a 151" I'm running 8 tooth drivers 19/43 gearing it pulls hard with no issues what's so ever I also installed a skid out of a 03 summit one of the best upgrades I've done besides the seat. And easy way to tell the difference between non HO 670 and a HO or X motor is the non ho's only have one temp sensor in the head where the HO/X had 2
