Looking for information on the tygstad 872 big bore. How well do they perform. They claim 186 hp. Anyone have one on here. How do they stack up against the 850 doo

We drag raced one up a hill in fresh snow at blue lake. my 2018 165 G4 stock against a 2017 G4 165 with the trygstad 872. we were neck and neck. my slightly lighter friend outpulled him consistantly on his stock 165. we were all less than impressed and the owner was quite upset. Understood drag racing isnt a true mountain comparison but it should leap out of the hole quicker etc.

maybe others have had better luck, but ive seen more than a few that didnt do anything much better than stock.

927 and 872 kits have always needed extra tuning to get them to work. I have experience with a 927 and a few 872’s.

The Tryg 872's I ride with work extremely well however they are the full race ones! There isn't a 850 with/head/pipe that can touch them.
I was just up at Ken's (Old Specialty) he has his 15 with 872 for sale and it only has 88km on it or I should say if someone wants to give him the cash for it..... It's a gorgeous ole sled all the best of the best!

I have one in my 14 has around 4000kms on it
Hasn’t missed a beat once I got clutching figured out
Definitely pulls harder than my 850 with jaws pipe
Dave was awesome to deal with

Oler1234’s parents both run one and are stout performers. Mind you the old boy has been in the game for 30yrs and knows a thing or two about making hp and getting it to the ground proper. PM Oler and he will give you the straight up goods.

Two identical 2013 x 163, both were in the same duration of break in. Both with the same clutching, except the 872 had extra weight in the clutch.

With me on both sleds the 872 had three lengths higher up the hill over my stock sled.

The fairest comparison I can give you.
We tried alot of clutching combos before we got it right.

All depends on your specific situation. My 14 xm 872 isn’t blowing anybody’s mind, but will certainly do things a stocker wont. My sled is only running 50/50 av/90. No tuner, 163x 3”. Im 270 no gear. My sled will hang with a 16 174 T3, but isnt blowing its doors off. If I gear up I get considerably more track speed but trade off is more belt temps. Still isnt gonna spank a G4 850.
I kind of want to max it out with race fuel, tuner, and what ever else to get it to put out max available power, I think it would be pretty sweet, but who can afford Race fuel on the regular?? As far as what it is, very reliable, make sure to break it in exactly as instructed, and she’s pull and go. Never skipped a beat and we run two of them. Also as far as power goes they do put out serious HP, at lower elevations. If I weight mine up around home(1500’), it will put a serious stretch on your arms!! Obviously looses some of that higher u go, but its how it goes.
