Ruger 10/22 is what I use and love it!!!!
Wife's is a Marlin model 25N bolt action, and it is a VERY strait shooter.

all depends on what you are looking for.. and how much you want to spend

best bang for your buck in the semi auto field is a ruger 10/22, for a bolt action the marlins/cz's are nice.. for a lever marlin or henry..

There are lots of different .22's out there... can go from $70-$1,000+.. need more info to really narrow stuff down

Well a semi auto for sure. It will be just used for shooting sh#t. The odd beaver, grouse in the fall and mostly just wasting time. The ruger 10/22 sporter doesn't look to bad and looks to be around $400.

The ruger 10/22 is a nice piece.. takes a lot of abuse and most of the time with work fine.. don't buy the super super cheap ammo for it though... will have a hard time feeding it consistantly... one nice thing about the 10/22 unlike a lot of guns is the aftermarket availibilty in the market.. you can do lots to them.. :D

The ruger is a nice choice. I personally have the remington 597 in the LSS and the yellow jacket. I like them both. The ruger has alot more hop ups thats for sure and they are tried and true rifle. If you want a good rifle for just shootin, Id suggest the Marlin 917V i think it is. Its a 17HMR bolt action laminate/thumbhole stock. I have a quite a few rim fires and my favorites are my Remington 597`s and my 17 HMR`s.

Well not sure about edmonton, but there is a little shop in edson i used to deal with that were pretty good. There is also 2 good shops in Red deer that have some nice stuff and that are also decently priced. I would suggest wholesale but i got no use for those erigant pricks. I know the one in calgary and saskatoon are useless and they dont get consignment stuff often and they dont want to deal in it anymore. I would personally find a smaller shop to deal with and get to know them as they will always treat you right compared to a bigger shop.

You know i love the 17 HMR. Ammo is pricy, but i look at it this way. 1 shot, 1 kill and its also packs enough punch to take down a coyote if need be. I like the 22LR cause it cheap to shoot but they dont group worth a heck. I personally like my .204 ruger for an all arounf rifle. Now thats gets expensive to shoot gophers with. But that rifle is comparable to a 22-250 and is flatter shooting and just as fast if not faster in some loads. I have about 600 rounds through my .204 savage model 25. All in all though my collection is bigger, i think i have 18 rifles and im still going. Im lookin for a new 300 win mag and also a 243 and a 280AI for hunting season.

If your in the market for a semi auto 22 gotta go with the ruger 10/22, it is one off the best semi auto 22 out there, plus you can get so many after market accesories for it, I have one and love it ( the gophers don't) But be sure to shoot a good quality shell or they tend to jam from time to time mainly in the clips. It don't really matter on the brand name of shells but some of the cheaper ones tend to have some kind of wax on some of them thats plugs everything up. I shoot winchester super X shells. It works perfect

I like the SS 10/22 but the 870 is Really fun to just shoot sh!t with :d

Like snow_knight says, don't burn cheap ammo with the ruger. Its a head ache.

CZ 452 is a dream after you find the right load for it, I have one with a 4x12 bushnell 3000 elite, this was originally purchased as a training rifle for long distance shooting for myself and I could not be more satisfied. Very few other guns for the $450.00 you will spend can group 1"-1.5" off bags(100 yds, yeah thats pretty far for a 22LR. not sorting ammo or anything using $2.00 a box winchester wildcat 22's. Take your time buy lots of different ammo and test for groups all guns no matter the manufacturer will prefer different kinds. It is by far my favorite and costs nothing to shoot. CZ's put most other guns to shame. Check out Canadian Firearms, Gun Owners and Hunters Community there is of freaks on there who can answer your questions.

PS The longest shot I have had to date was 157 yds and I nailed a crow, dropped him on the spot first shot.

PS I had a 597, 10/22 and a few others. They are all gone now. Except for the CZ. NEVER, NEVER.:d:d:d:d:d

Canadiangunnutz has a great Exchange of new and used firearms, and everything you need to know about guns. There are always .22 being sold on there. Personaly I would buy a .22 new but some guys do them up then sell em. But be very very careful what you do because gun are extremely addicting hobby... like everything else fun.
