2011-Strathcona Trails FINAL Study-NEED YOUR ONLINE INPUT - HELP- ASAP

HI All

We have worked with the County of Strathcona for 30 years to try and establish SNOWMOBILE TRAILS within the County. It has come down to this FINAL STUDY on trails in the county

PLEASE - We need you to complete the ONLINE study in support of SNOWMOBILING.
Please pass it on to your friends and family because the number of online responses will directly effect the study as to who and how many people are interested in a SNOWMOBILE TRAIL system in the County...

These trails will link Ministik / Hay Lakes / Leduc - Camrose & Beaver County to the Fort Saskatchewan Trails ->to Lamont Trails ->to Iron Horse Trails -> to Trans Canada Trails -> then you could ride from Grande Prairie to Nova Scotia ... right across CANADA!!!!!

The Following is a letter from the Study Group Company.....

Hello,

As you may know Strathcona County is developing a Trails Strategy that will address the planning (and maintenance) of the County's trail system. Included in this planning are both urban and rural pathways as well as the variety of non-mechanized and mechanized uses of the trail system. Late last year we consulted with group representatives and the public to help develop the Strategy. In order to finalize the Trails Strategy it is important to gather some additional input from groups. You are receiving this email because our records show you are a representative for an organization -Tri-County Snowmobile Club- that may have some interest in Strathcona County's trail system.

Survey
Please find attached a questionnaire to gather the perspective of your organization. Please complete the questionnaire and return it via email (return it to me), fax (780-426-2734) or mail (see address below). Alternatively you can access the questionnaire online by clicking on the following link:

ONLINE - Strathcona County Trails - Group 2 STUDY

On page 1 it asks "Please answer the following questions on behalf of your group / organization. Only one survey should be completed and submitted by your group / organization." This is now open to everyone to submit so use Snow & Mus as the Organization and you name as the Contact, and just a member...

We would like to collect your response by June 24, 2011; hopefully you can accommodate this timing.

Public Open House
A draft of the Trails Strategy has been developed and you will have the opportunity to get an update on this draft at a public open house. The details are as follows:
Date: June 16th
Time: 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m
Formal presentation starts at 7:30 p.m.
Location: Memorial Hall in Ardrossan

The input you provide from your group's perspective, along with feedback gathered through a resident household survey, will be used to finalize this draft Trails Strategy. Your input is important and is very much appreciated.

If you have any questions about this study please contact Mike Roma (RC Strategies) at 780-441-4263 or Leslee Laing (Strathcona County) at 780-410-8512 during normal business hours.

Sent and done. Peeps - we need as much input as we can get on this from our crowd. Frankly, quads will be a "no-go" and we should abandon any attempt to try to get them included in trail use in the County. But there clearly is some impetus to get a connector snowmobile trail in the County given the excellent relations the clubs have with landowners and the unbelievable job they have done maintaining a trail system. It is relatively easy to administer - and likely won't cost the County much. Full score on both points.

However - there are a lot of horse petters in this damn County that are absolutely dead against any form of motorized recreation, or frankly anything any other use of these trails that they view as infringing on their "entitlement". They are devoid of any construct of of "basic fairness" or "give and take". In addition - they are well organized and because their husbands are out actually earning a living - they have a lot of time on their hands to rail against causes that would impact their hobby (not trying to be sexist - just stating a fact). I have never tried to deal with a more close-minded bunch of individuals in my life.

It will take three minutes to answer the survey - please do. And keep the responses "friendly" Nothing will give us a black eye more than if we come across as the mouth breathing Neanderthals that the anti-OHV crowd likes to portray us as.

Sorry to all BUT it was at the memorial hall 1 block away.

Was as good as we can expect. Our fate is in the hands of the counciliers that have to make a decision to include motorized recreation to the trail plan. Seems like we have our best chance ever right now.

Barefooter has a pretty good grasp of the situation we are in. The horsie people are all in support of what we are for. Working with us in Ministik and seeing what has been done there to support snowmobiling (Thanks Brian and Tri-County S/C) to make it responsible has got them to agree on our importance to be included in the trail plan.

OHV including atvs and snowmobiles. We have asked to be seperated from OHVs because of season issues and level of trail and club develpment that snowmobilers have over ATV association. As well as the enviromentall issues associated with ATV use towards the ground effect.

Now we have to respond to the on-line survey for concerned citizens. Will post a link here soon.

Thanks
