Hey,

I've seen a lot of Yamaha WR dirt bikes in downtown Calgary and I'm wondering if anyone knows if the WR's are street legal straight out of the box or if you have to make any modifications or pass any inspections to register them on the road?

My plan would be to use it as a commuter bike during the week, then do some trail riding on the weekend...

Thanks,

they are not legal for highway use right out of the box. you need to add a dual sport kit, DOT tires, and then have it inspected.

The street legal one isn't as fast as the off-road only version. I believe the suspension isn't the same either. (read in Dirt Rider)

One would figure the on highway one would be faster for if you took it on the highway but that could be done with sprokets

It looks like it has signal lights, as long as the tires are dot aproved it would be fine. But they look to agressive to be dot aproved.

according to alta transport they dont really look at the tires,i did an o.o.p and told the cust he needed tires on his vette as the speed rating was not correct and got a lovely ph call from them stating that the law in alta does
no enforce tire ratings, maybe this should be in the wtf thread!!
