 I thought that title would get some response!!

I woould like to propose that S&M with their huge membership, impose a 1 time fee of $10 for continued, or new access, and donate those funds to the Canadian Avalanche Center. Go ahead and let the bashing begin!!

Asking for a donation is a great Idea however forcing someone to pay for a site that prides itself on being free is not an option!
We would have to change our name too snowest 2!

Good idea, other than the charging members part.
Actively promoting avy awareness and providing a way for members to donate to the CAC easily, but by choice, could be a move in the right direction.

I think we all know what kind of a response Sherry Beck got in trying to sell her candles. Doesn't work. A one time fee would probably get rid of a lot of 10 year olds that are posting on here like they have 30 year old nards as well! USER PAY! For those poor souls who can't cough up $10, you can always Google your tech questions, and trail condition questions etc. Nobody is forcing anyone to be a contributor.

Well, no offense to Sherry but not everyone needs candles. I prefer to just donate the money directly so that 100% of it makes it to the CAC, versus having to pay for a candle first and getting a smaller profit. Just my humble opinion.

Why not put a donate button on the home page for anyone that wishes to do so.

What a good way to destroy a great online community. Snow and mud would not be where it is today if it was a pay to join site. Would it fair to start charging now because it's getting bigger and bigger everyday?

I think a good idea would be a donation system (completely voluntary) that would have a few different levels that would show what kind of supporter you are under your avatar ie. gold, silver, or bronze contributor.

Saying that requiring a one time donation that is going to be directed entirely to the CAC is "going to destroy an online community" suggests that you don't give the members of your community much credit.

About as much credit as you gave them when you said they were acting like a bunch of 10 year olds.

Charging the good people to get rid of the bad ones doesn't make much sense to me.

How about Snow and Mud suds night fundraisers for CAC? Then everybody is happy, you get some beer, get to meet people and get to do some good for our community. Kinda like an organized pass the hat thing thats already going on to a certain extent. We don't need a replay of Snowest, I know I haven't returned and never will.

I personally don't like to be told where and when to donate my money, especially for website usage. Fundraising and voluntary donations is how it's done, you don't force people to donate. Besides there is already a donation post going at the top of this page, keep it at the top and use that avenue.

Why would you want to know what kind of contributor someone is? My family doesn't donate a whole lot in terms of cash, but we do donate a whole lot more time (including taking days off) to help volunteer. My wife and I decided that when we had our own house, that if someone walked up the driveway asking for a donation they would get it, but if someone picks up the phone and starts asking, well I'm sorry but no. As for there being a donate button, I'm game. I'll give my donation. My favorite donation is when the kids come selling candy bars at the door, I will buy a couple and when they start walking away, I call them back and give them to the sellers. But at least they walked up the driveway and got a bonus for it.:d

A one time user fee to be donated to the CAC is not right
This is a snow and "MUD" website. I am having trouble remembering when the last time I heard of a bunch of Quaders getting stuck in an avalanche.
Yes, a lot of members on this site do both, but what about the people that do not snowmobile.
I agree with a donation button on the side, and would support a minor increase to the trail fees so it would be more of a user pay with the more you use the more you support something you can take advantage of more often. Someone that does not ride in the mountains often would pay very little but someone that rides regularly would take advantage of the information available more frequently.
If the clubs collected one dollar more per day pass and submitted this to the CAC they would have more than enough to operate and improve the system. It would also show that snowmobilers are responsible group and not a burden to society like some people believe.
People that get yearly memberships could be charged an extra $5.00 per membership to be submitted.
I will bring this forward to our club and see what our members think

donation buttons, more expense to a site that already is over taxed, not only the money end of it but the time it takes to manage a donation button. there is a charge to handle these transations and the accounting sucks. Just send your money to who ever you want.

This site will Never charge our members, but I can add a button on the Left side that will link to the CAC for donations. Just say your a member of Snowandmud. I will contact John Kelly from the CAC and see what he can do to make this work. The donation button would be a direct link to the CAC for donations and Snowandmud would not be involved.

Better remember not all members are sledders and still more that do sled but do not expose themselves to the risk of avys.

This the the most narrow minded, selfish thread ever started on this site.

Money is not the problem. Lots of clubs with lots of money and no one willing to put in the time to get r done. Volunteers are a much bigger problem.

If you really want to make a difference, get of your butt and volunteer your time for 1 day per year.
