The ford guy is probably trying to cover his azz but I can see what he is getting at with the F450. Most will be sold as a cab and chassis and have a custom deck or workbox setup put on which usually have an integrated bumper and mount the spare tire somewhere different as well. For the F250/350 it is total BS.

Ford is using these tactics to get the F450 in the same ratings as the 3500 Ram. I have a 3500 Ram as a personal truck and I've been running an '11 F350 as a work truck since late 2010. There is no way I'd put the F350 in the same league as the 3500 ram. It sags bad with a light load for a 1 ton and the frame flexes bad....bad enough that if the windshield is cracked it creaks and moves enough to separate itself. Not my vision of a tough truck

Very sad manufactures do these tactics to unsuspecting customers.

They all talk safety and air bags etc. Then IMO fake the load rating.

Humm, interesting.
Fords are terrible for sagging with weight on them. Gm is better than the ford, can handle the weight in the box better.

Every morning on my way to work if I am getting blinded by an oncoming truck, 9 times out of 10 it is a Furd 3/4 or 1 ton with something heavier than a roll of paper towels in the back. Furd engineers should be slapped.
