take a look at your belt allinment, if your way off it will cause a bad backshaft, once i shimed it out, the backshift and rpm bouncing has left, stock clutching is not bad, its the allinment, we have been just adding pin weight, but then joey can take it to a whole new leaque

Thanks for the suggestion. I've had the the clutchs checked. They are straight, supposedly. I've noticed lately that if you can keep the sled between 4500 and 5000 it will hold back well. As soon as it's over 5000 it runs away.
