2012 etec not pulling rpms

Today I was riding my brothers 800xrs, and it would be gutless. Clutches are set at 3 and was only getting 7000rpm tops. Elevation is about 2600ft or so. Weird thing was I'd get onto a iced road and it pulled 8100rpm almost instantly as soon as the track spins and I would have full power. But then back into a field I go with some fresh snow to hook up in and it would be gutless again only pulling 7000rpms.

Any thoughts?

strange. almost sounds like maybe a broken spring. best bet is to pull off both clutches and clean and replace the parts needed if any. then reset the belt height and try again.
