Westlock told me the high idle caused the torque converter to spin, but if its too cold the oil doesn't circulate.
ACTUALLY THE TORQUE CONVERTOR IS BOLTED TO THE ENGINE AND THE TORQUE CONVERTOR TURNS AN INTERNAL TRANSMISSION SHAFT THAT TRANSFERS THE POWER INTO THE TRANSMISSION, AND IT ACTUALLY TURNS THE TRANSMISSION PUMP ASSEMBLY AS WELL. APPARENTLY THE NEW ATF+V GETS QUITE THICK WHEN REALLY COLD, SO WHEN THE ENGINE KICKS INTO FAST IDLE ITS VAPOURLOCKING THE TRANSMISSION VALVE CIRCUITS AND CAUSING INTERNAL DAMAGE, BECAUSE THE OIL IS GOOEY THICK... THIS IS WHAT I READ ON A DIESEL WEBSITE... ONLY HAPPENING IN COLDER CLIMATES(LIKE OURS).... APPARENTLY ALMOST NO CASES REPORTED IN THE STATES OR EASTERN CANADA. WE'VE HAD A FEW NEW ONES TOWED INTO US, AND I'VE JUST BEEN REDIRECTING THEM TO THE GM DEALERS..........

i guess there is an update for the tranny problems - they reprogram the cpu so the torque converter or pump goes in cycles.

Be careful with the manual regen thinking. From what I've read about so far, none of the big three diesel trucks will regen at idle or even high idle if the cat is full. The engine won't get hot enough to cook soot particularly in the winter.

It really disturbs me to think about for example going ice fishing on a cold winter day, leaving the truck running (because it's bloody cold) and having the engine shut down because the cat is full and everyone else has left the lake. Now what?

Its not at Idle ..If ur DPF puts u in limp mode the dealer will hook up the tech 2 and do a manual regen, or if its totally plugged change out DPF..With my PPE. I can do this myself if it happens..With my 08 u can tell when its in regen different sound and the pipes are smoking..The EGT'S go thro the roof wow. Pour more fuel to the system to be more enviromentally friendly just can't see it....
