Already have a full exhaust and air filter
Dynojet carb kit, and put it in exactly as directed in the instruction booklet. Only mod I've ever done, to any machine, that went in and performed as advertised with the suggested settings. The only thing you'll have to do is grind the little metal stopper off the air mixture screw on the front of the float bowl, so it can be turned for more fuel.

You can also remove the smog kit. Doesn't really add any performance, but sheds a pound or so off the bike. It's function is to take fresh air from the airbox and deliver it thru the exhaust to pass emission standards.

I had an '01 with a Big Gun ceramic coated header-back exhaust system, Dynojet kit, and K&N filter with pre filter skin. It would outperform stock 650L's by 5mph on the top end, and pull ahead throughout the gears. Fun bikes.
