tranny problems

Hey guys, I got a problem here. The trannsmission on my 99 dakota (5.2L 44re) has 230000km on it and decided it no longer likes 2nd gear. It just revs hard then shifts into 3rd. It doesnt jerk or anything, but totally misses 2nd. Anybody have any idea's what this could be? Mr. Transmission wants $170 to take it apart and get a look at it. Am I better off just buying a used tranny? Any thoughts would be helpful.

that asside my understanding that funtimes on here is the tranny man....bwa hahahahaha
