Sooner than we know it, the snow will be here again and that means I better get some summer maintenance out of the way on the old girl. What I have is an '04 Summit 800, I've owned it one season and the guy before me allegedly had a complete factory crate motor put in it. On the last ride of the winter the primary came apart on me. I've since rebuilt it and am just waiting to put it back on the sled when I get a chance. The machine has a Team secondary but other than that, she is stock. I've changed the oil and adjusted the chain and it has new plugs. Is there anything else I should take care of now before I hop back on? What would you guys suggest I watch out for? I know it's almost 10 years old but I'd like to get a solid season out of her before upgrading next year.

Check the coolant bottle for deformed around the cap. ( ovels and not round )

Check for the rubber coming off the reed boots

Take the outer air box off the side panel and put frog skin , or something that let's air through the holes there
They suck belt dust and snow unless fixed.

I had quite the list for my 04 every summer

- take apart and clean both clutches, replace buttons and o-rings on primary, and other parts as needed
- grease the skid
- check Y-pipe bolts and Nord locks
- clean rave valves
- clean the engine compartment
- change the belt regardless of wear
- change spark plugs
- fog it, if I didn't fog it I'd start it once a month, smell the 2 stroke and bring her up to temp
- put in fuel stabilizer
- drain chain case oil, check chain, replace if needed and add in new oil
- I'd also put a piece of tape on the mountain bar to remind me to re-torque the clutches after doing a quick rip in the parking lot the first day

I think that's it.

So I'm finally getting around to giving the sled a cleanup. Man, previous owner didn't take too good of care of the old Summit. What a mess.

So I have a question regarding my reed valves. Some of the petals are chipped. Should a guy replace them with OEM or spring for some aftermarket jobbies? The boots appear to be fine.

thanks

If I still had my 04 HME, that would be a done deal. With a look or a decent pic! Well worth looking into Old-Soul......

Ahh you're out Rocky way.

I'm out of town pretty much next week but I'll probably be able to swing out and pick those up, or we can meet up on the 17th. Whichever is easiest. Thanks!

So I got a chance to take it for a spin last weekend and I've got a drive-train question.

Sometimes, not all the time, when I get on the throttle from a stand-still there's a "clunk" sound/feeling when the track takes off. Chain is in good shape and adjusted. Where should I be looking to sort this out?

Normal for the slop in the track to drivers.

Think its worse with int-ext drivers.

Do a leak down test. Make sure you check your carb boots and y pipe for cracks.
