Hill Climbs

My understanding is that all santioned hillclimbs in Western Canada have been discontinued due to insurance issues however if your refering to the Big Iron Shoot Out it happen on March 11 last year.
I haven't caught wind of the date for 2007 but I'll bet Lori at Zak's Avalanche Training (zacs@nucleus.com) will know.

hill climb

I was just talking to Powder Puff about it 2 days ago the rev sowmobile club wants nothing to do with it . A lot of garbage left behind and some injuries, they are trying to not let it happen again. I was at Big Iron last year over 3000 sleds unbelievable.

Re: Big Iron Shoot-out

Yup, We Were In Sicamous Too During The "big Iron" Shoot-out, And Also Had Owls Head And Eagles Pass All To Ourselves(except For Summiteer, I Guess):d ;) . We Barely Saw A Soul Last Year, Was Great. You Know It Will Be Trouble, If Even The Local Club Won't Participate. Insurance, Bylaws, Crowd Control, Medical Assistance, Grooming, Policing, Local Laws, Parking, Are All Stretched To The Limits, So I Can Understand The Local Clubs Position To Not Aid Or Approve Of This "event". If This Event Does Go On, Hopefully, There Won't Be Any Carnage, And Worse Yet, Any Injuries. :(

Big iron

WOW-what to do.
If they don't get to have the event then many riders will be unhappy.
If they do go ahead then the Legal stuff steps up.
If they don't have it the local economy is effected in a big way.
If they do and someone gets really hurt then there will be trouble.

On and on and on it goes...

If the event goes forward without the proper approvals in place then this is just one more thing for the enviromentalists to latch on to and push for more riding restrictions in the mountains. Certianly something to think about as we fight tooth and nail to keep out land rights in place.

Hmmmm....

Big Iron Shoot out

Summitric and I had the opportunity to chat with Mike Irman who competes in the Big Irion Shoot Out while in Sicamous. We met him a few years ago at the Alberta Snowmobile Show and found him to be a real down to earth guy, conisdering his riding talents.
Here are a few photos
1. The truck they drive...awesome unit:

2. Summitric, Mike, One of his 3 sons and myslef.

It seems that it's still ago, however the number of sleds allowed will be 1000,an attempt to keep control.
