With all the focus on the horrible situation in Fort Mac I just saw that there is now an out of control wildfire with warnings that evacuations could be coming.

Fire seems to be under control now. Had some rain around there too.

Wow not cool. I really hope these fires are not by arson.

My guess would be cigarette butts out the window, before arson. JMO tho.

I have some friends that work for SRD, a couple of which are pretty much dedicated to fighting and controlling wildfires. They say that a surprising number of wildfires are started by those looking for work fighting those fires.

This has always been evident, however they have changed it now so you can fight a fire in within 300k of where you reside.

Its not only the adrenaline rush but think income, you're sitting at home waiting for work. Strike a match and boom their you go. It's sad it has to come to this but it does happen more then often. I just looked at the stats, since I obtained my Type 1 wildland cert in 2001 to now things have sure changed. Used to be roughly 80% fires caused by lightening and 20% human activity. It's almost completely flipped spectrum.

This statement didn't make sense to me. You can or can't fight a fire within 300 k ?
