No I think you are in the ball park. I am doing the trade on Sunday for the 530. I have to get it home and close code for sure but I think I will be selling it and keeping the 250 xcw. The street legality has me wanting the 530 but the ease and lightweight of the 250 has me thinking it would be better for me. Engine is easy to work on vs the four stroke.

What is everyone's opinion. If you had the choice between an 08 250 xcw or a 2010 530 exc which would you choose and why? I would like to keep them both but I should sell one. And since they are the same chassis then treat them like they are the same year

530's got a lot of jam. Good for the open road with intermittent periods of high speed off road. I know it would wear me out in the bush. I think you'd be happy with the 250 for the bush. If I had a 530 I'd turn it into a snowbike.

I ride the 530 since I got it new in 08. Lots if jam bit what I like better is the endless chug on long winding hill climbs. Not shifting, revving, and clutching non stop just keeps chugging and super smooth

Are the older EXCs still pretty good? I heard somewhere that you dont want the older ones. But I dont really want to spend 11k on a dirtbike.

Yesterday I was thinking keep the 2 stroke. Today I am thinking of keeping the 4 stroke mainly because it is street legal. I dunno. I am heading down tomorrow to do the deal. Ideally if the weather co operates I can ride both back to back and decide.

The 08 and maybe 09 exc 530 had an oil transfer issue on some between the engine oil and gear oil reservoirs.
The 08 also had the auto decompressor built wrong on some of the cams so they were sometimes hard to start. Wasn't a big problem on mine and replaced with the 09 cam when I had top end done in 2012
The emissions crap had to come off the exc's but I'm sure that's already been done on any used ones you would find. A JD jetting kit helped as well

Hey, That mountain pic looked like Mountain Park.

I've had a few older 2 stroke 250/300 EXC's and they were excellent. High quality, tough with great power. I've had friends with various models, a 380 EXC and a 500 EXC. Both guys loved them but the 500 was a vibrator. 380 was actually not bad. Guys I hung around with drooled over the 300 since it first came out. I still have all the old pamphlets and Ktm booklets from earlier days when they got their act together in 1990 with the redesign, then almost going bankrupt, then coming back in force in the early 90's. (94 was a great year bike with WP susp. which KTM own). All the plastic colour changes over the years(white, blue, yellowee, then going no link in 98 I believe and sticking with orange. I briefly had a 87 250 motocross with upside down forks but it wasn't very good. I have tons of pics of the old stuff it's still hardcopies tho, plus I have dirtbike mags going back to the mid 70's so I can reminisce about the good ole days. Never really a bad year for the 250/300 off road bikes, just nobody knows about them here. They only know about the recent KTM's.

I've owned every smaller KTM 2 stroke for my kids. Now that they are riding bigger bikes it will always be a 4 stroke. I bought a new 2011 450 sxf. I loved that bike. Sold it to fund a different project.

Here's my daughter on her SX144. My wife loves riding this bike in the Oregon dunes.

So I have decided to keep the 530. I can't pass up the fact that I have always wanted one and the it is street legal. The bike is home and in good shape. It is set up for super motard right now but there is two sets of wheels. I will be putting the dirt back on and looking into the best set I can for my style of riding that are dot. Lots of choices out there. I am going to take a couple choice goodies off the 250 and put them on the 530. I'm going to continue cleaning up the 250, get the starter working properly with the updated 410w starter and sell it. Probably going to asking 4500-5000 depending on what else I do to it.

08 530EXC in full tard, most fun I've ever had on the street, awfully heavy for riding in the sand though. Would be great on dirt trails, going to go do some riding down south this summer. I have an X link lowering bushing for sale if anyone's interested.
