kitty cat gear oil level

I just picked up a 1976 kitty cat for my daughter for christmas. Does anybody know how to check the oil level in the gear box or how much should be in there?

there are 2 plugs/screws, the bottom one is for draining the top is the level... I just filled mine till it started coming out the hole a bit...
In this picture #16 shows the two plugs/screws for draining and level, and #18 is the fill hole.

my 77 kitty cat says that there should be 35cc in there and says to use 30w right onthe case. should be the same as your 76 i would think.
