Just got home what a day. So much snow. The grader hadn’t made it in so I had to park the bus at Sherman meadows. We met the grader on the way out. Working on the Stetson of course. He was gonna get in and do the parking lot tonight. Pretty rutted up from the Stetson on in. Snowed all day and deep. I’m heading back in tomorrow to place my camp. Hopefully I can get to it haha. Ran chains all day on pick up. Looking real good for this season.

Cheers

Yes it is. I just come out of there from setting up camp. It got absolutely destroyed by the snow gods today. It snowed 7” in a hour. I’ve never seen it snow that hard. Took us 4 hours to get home.
The grader did get the parking lot cleared but it’s stacking up hard in there again. If you have a camp on the cutline it also got plowed.

Cheers

So this is accessed via the walker creek FSR from highway 16? Where is the parking lot and how far in? Can a truck with trailer make it or just deck? Researching this, not much info out there. Looks very cool. You said a grader was in there, do the grade it from hwy 16 to this parking lot you mentioned? How far from the parking lot to the riding area/alpine? Thanks! Sorry for all the questions, been reading for hours online.

We come in from grande prairie. 160km south west of gp. Then it’s a 45 km ride into the lake. On my Gps waypoints the closest I’ve been to renshaw was 46 km as the crow flys. Very similar riding. Kakwa is also a massive riding are like renshaw.

From what I understand you can access it from the Walker creek road. I think in the winter you cant drive too far up the road, and then it is about an 80 km ride in to Kakwa lake. I know you will have to bring extra fuel in to make it back.

So most common access is through GP, which road goes to kakwa? Is a day trip from GP hard to do or most guys camp in the kakwa park?

From GP you head south towards Grovedale. Get onto the Two Lakes road (I think it is 666) and follow it down to Sherman Meadows airstrip.
It can easily be done in a day trip. Bring fuel.

Make sure you have a VHF radio as well. Those are very active logging roads

Its about 110k to Kakwa on the Walker Creek road. There is no parking lot. I parked on the side of the road. Tried to go in the spring. Lots of overheating issues, never quite made it.
