Waskatenau is where the Iron Horse trail starts from the west side. The staging area is right in town along the railway tracks. Exit off hwy 28 at the Waskatenau main entrance and drive through town on main street till you come to a stop sign, Turn right and approx. 1/2 a block you will see a sign on your left "Iron Horse Staging area. Once you unload, head east on the road approx. 1/2 mile through the valley and across the bridge. Once you come up the hill, you will see the beginning of the trail.

There's absolutely nothing to see between Waskatenau and Smokey Lake on the Iron Horse. You may want to consider staging at Smokey Lake and heading from there. The scenery improves drastically after Smokey Lake and the Bellis Natural Area is only about 25 km from there.

How was the ride?
I was thinking of taking my Dad for a ride on the Iron Horse.
Where did you stage from and how far did you go?
Any recommended sights or places to stop for a better look?
Good place to roast hot dogs?

Thanks

Nice, glad to hear:) used to stop in Vilna and play a game of pool, super old classic table, and goeing is always fun!
