Guess we will see,

I guess we have to wait and see what really happened. There are always two sides to every story, and perhaps, like the CTV news said, he did try. I am not taking sides to this because the whole story is still not out.
These horses were seen back in November 11th long weekend by some friends of mine and they reported it to people in town that day. That is a window of 5 weeks there folks...I am curious as to what happened there myself..

Thanks.

Lets give the guy 1 chance to "WOW" us with his story of survival. ......Bucked off, broken leg, bears, up hill both ways etc. Who knows he may be legit...Merry Christmas, and great job to all involved. The gong will ring at the griz next time I'm in town. Hope to give cheers to as many volunteers as i can.

Hoping everyone has caught up on their sleep, warmed up and nursing their frostbite; Dean for one will be leaving back to work soon with some interesting looking wounds ;)To speculate about the hows and why's of this wasn't going to do any good-the most important thing was getting the horses out of there. I agree with you that this guy (owner) has an opportunity to tell his side of the story-whether we choose to believe (support) him or not, well that sounds like another story for another post (did read the CTV article from 24th) ....again, amazing support from around the planet-phenomenal :)

Thank you for your concerns. None of us want these horses to go back to the owner. You can call Kent Kokoska of the SPCA and voice your concerns.

or email kkokoska@spca.bc.ca
Thanks and merry Christmas!

I couldn't agree more, these horses should not be returned to the owner and any other animals he may own should also be seized as he has shown he is not willing to care for them in a humane manner. At no time did he make contact with any of the volunteers or make his way out to McBride to help rescue them. I would suggest this complete thread be forwarded to the SPCA as part the investigation as there is some very good information written from the volunteers as to what occurred since these animals were first spotted on the mountain. I will be sending Mr. Kokoska of the SPCA a separate message to voice my opinion as I hope many others will as well. Keep the faith!!

Merry Christmas to all, and a very special thank you to the volunteers, I hope you are enjoying yourselves by a warm fire with a hot toddy!!

Re: Horses, Snow, and Mud

hard to believe that the news 'bout the horses made all the way to the Windy City. I was there and helped out for an hour as did many other sledders. Good to see so many good people pull together for this rescue

Yes we were looking for them. The problem was that the Renshaw is a big area and nobody could tell us were they where exactly. There are alot of very good riders in Mcbride that are capable of riding anywhere, but if we don't know where to look not much can be done. If the info was relyed to someone in town it never did get to the rider's. I would like to see the investigation report when it is done, personally I do not want to see these fine animals that we have adopted go back to him. He said he wants to pay us for our effort, I am thinking that there was alot of expensive people out there digging, the bill will be to high for him to pay. Heck 10 sled's per day at the rental rate of 325 per day is 22.750.00 for 7 days. I know the horses are in a warm place with a big Christmas smile on, so all is well.
TIME TO GET BACK TO SLED'N

Falling Star - thank you for those pictures. The horses look amazing, considering all they went through - and their ears are up! Glad to see it was daylight when they were led out. For some reason I was thinking it was 11 pm :)

Any word on how they are doing?

We started walking down the logging road shortly after 3 pm and didn't get to the parking lot until 10 pm, so five hours of walking in the dark...
We did, however, have four sleds with us, so had some lights.
