So this .17WSM is too much for my rimfire target. I've hit this hundreds of times with the .17HMR and the .22WMR but the super punches holes through it

This is the best rimfire available period!
The .17HMR will probably be obsolete in a year or so. Only issue I have with this is the availability of ammo. At $339 this has to be the best bang for the buck in my cabinet. The rifle is very light and almost feels like a toy but I'm sure there will be a wide selection of mfr's chambering this round next year.
