What did my dog kill?

My best dog in the whole wide world comes home out of breath, scratches on his right ear and blood on his head. It’s happened twice now. I don’t know what the species is.
Anyone know the animal he is killing?

Cool side note-My dog chased a coyote a ways into the bush, stopped and purposely got the coyote to chase him. My dog came rippin back to 30 ft from me and turned around waited for yote to show up. The yote showed up 3 seconds later and stopped in his tracks about 50 ft away from me. It was an absolute perfect shot. My dog set up the shot for me, it couldn’t have been more perfect. I know my dog wasn’t scared by way he turned around and waited for the yote. He was like “oh yea yote, meet my human!” Unfortunately, I didn’t have a gun with me.
