For anyone interested in the Cold Lake area I spent Jan26,27,28 staging from Crane Lake and put on about 200km going down trails between Crane, Tucker and Bourque lakes. The lakes have up to 4 inches of snow with many ice patches with Crane Lake having some ice heaves by the island. The pipelines/roads have 4-8 inches of snow and I had no problem finding trails that no one had been on. The trail heading from the warmup cabin at Crane Lake towards Cold Lake had tracks on it but it was not groomed (so I cut off on the first pipeline past it and headed to the trails where there had been no traffic). As long as you stick to the main trails/pipelines and take it easy you'll have fun.

To bad about the rain when I left the area on Sunday morning there was a couple inches of fresh snow on the ground and it was still coming down hard. Hopefully the trails will have survived, I hope to make one more trip up there this year.
