I would think the us would seize the ship, all goods on boards and go after the insurance.

insurance 44mil, ship value 44mil, cargo on board 10m+ ? estimated cost o bridge repair 1.5 to 3 billion! oh boy this is going to be a long process

Maybe. The pilots that ran the MV Evergiven aground in the Suez Canal in 2021 were also from India, and part of the cause was a language barrier between them and the Eqyptian Pilots.

I haven't read up on this situation. But I did watch a video on a ship disaster is year 1910, roughly. Back then, the liability the ship's owner could be held liable for was LIMTED to the value of the SHIP, AFTER it was salvaged. So a sunk ship, that the owner has to pay to recover, is basically worthless, meaning anyone suing the company can only be awarded the value of the worthless ship (i.e. basically zero dollars).
