Looking for a 30/30 Winchester in great shape before I spend maje bucks on a new one? Anyone selling one? I have a rpal and I am a sane, normal human.

30/30 ? Crowbar . Lol. In saying that I have a couple of them .
If buying go for the 45/70 .
You want a clip or the tube type ?

Yeh the tube is fine but a pain as need to jack all the shells out to unload .
Clip is nice for that .

The guide version of the levers are nice . A bit shorter for packing .
I have this one and real nice compact shooter but a Marlin 45-70

What is recoil like for the 45 70? I want the wife to be able to use it but not get flinchy and scared of big recoil. Whatcha think?

Not anymore then a 30/30 with the 45/70 400 grain bullet .
500 grain it kicks a bit more .

Thx for the knowledge and experience. I think I will do a 30/30 with a clip. Do u want to part with one? No stress if u dont. Love the clip tip!

Lol
No both are tubes . Have a really old hexagon barrel long barrel 30/30 and then the other is a tude as well .
Nothing wrong with a 308 caliber either and way better ballistics then 30/30 the Browning models all have clips with lever .
Ammo is cheap and no kick .
I have a savage 308 lever with drop clip and really like it for packing in the truck . Lol
Quoted below .

The BLR is, in my opinion, one of the best short/medium range hunting rifles made. ... Now, compared to traditional lever action rifles, the BLR has 1 big thing going for it: standard cartridges. Standard Win 308 is a favorite caliber and offers 400 yard power and trajectory, which you're not going to get from your 30-30.

If you want a low recoil capable shooter a 6.5 Creedmoor or 7mm-08 are two great ones.

308 recoil is fairly significant for a new shooter in my opinion. I learnt on a 303 and shot that for almost 20 yrs, low recoil on that one.

I got a Mossberg 464 in .30-30. Its ok I guess but its pretty much a crap shoot past 100m with the iron sight. Not the first gun I’d grab if it came down to it.

100%. With better ammo the 30-30 is more capable out to longer ranges but the iron sights on any lever gun are limiting it to being a bush gun.

I have a Marlin 336 I bought 10 years ago, it doesn't have much recoil but make sure you wear ear pro. That short barrel makes it sound like a cannon.
