very little effort made to make the calgary show an event, was mainly run as a calgary sled club event. if you don't make an effort you will likely get a failure, and thus they did. putting the calgary show before the edmonton show may have made a difference. will see what happens, obviously someone thinks a show in red deer may work. who knows. we sure don't see much asa activity here, other than the proverbial hands out for money.
don't hav to go to far search asa sled clubs on this forum not much info and what there is is old. seem to remember a guy wanting to volunteer at a sled club in the red deer area. no response from any club that i can remember. not sure why i am required to promote any sled club or an organization that i have very little involvement with. i have sent messagees for meeting dates etc. no response and thus i have no interest. it is like a business, people will go elsewhere rather quickly.
Thats really too bad... I've quickly realized that our local club is very dedicated and welcoms all the new members it can get with open arms...

The ASA tried for 3 years to help make the Calgary show better. Before it was held in a smaller showcase outside of the city or in a small hall. Only had a couple of dealers show up. The ASA brought it to a mainline type show very proffesional organized with all manufactures attending and supporting.
The ASA tried to make it a good show and for the last few years it was better. BUT lets face it,the bulk of snowmobilers are from Northern/Central Alberta.
Imdoo`n I can tell your not the most positive poster here most of the time but this time your not giving enough credit to the ASA. You have no idea how much time or $$$ the ASA has put into that show. It was time to call it and focus more on the Edmonton Show.
The local club is active in your area. Small group of people trying to make a go of it. Have you ever gone to a dealer and asked for a contact name. Have you ever tried to call the ASA office for a contact name and number? Just wondering.
We will see what comes from the Red Deer show. More to a show than a few sleds hanging around and some vendors. Time will tell. Good location for some but not for the masses. JMHO
Thanks

hmm, been to the dealers lots i'm thinking. yes, seem to have 4 quads, presently 4 sleds, have had more. so i think i have been to a few dealers ok? i have called the caroline club and also the david thompson, tail creek no. have had 1 email back, meetings are a ways away, but not that big of a deal. if you want interest make yourself accessable. see very little activity from clubs on this site, go figure a sled site at that. sledders everywhere, ripe pickin's for a sled club. shheeet we get a good turn out most times just on a red deer beer nite.
an example check under the heading CLUBS on this site, you should be embarrassed with the lack of listings and contacts.
red deer sled show is here nor there, it is what it is. may work or may not. someone thinks it will. not very prfessional to come on here and beg us not to attend, better to promote your own offering, in my opinion.
as far as my posts go i post what is bothering me or making me smile at that time. i'm sure no one reads that crap anyway, i'd suggest instead of us arguing about it, maybe listen to what i'm saying.
The Calgary show was never the same product as the Edmonton show.
Edmonton has always been bigger, more products, vendors, events and amsoil jugs
The Calgary sled club holds their silent auction but I have never been asked to join, nothing saying they are looking for members. Like anything else you can't expect people just to come to you because you're the only game in town.
Not having a Calgary show is kind of sad but makes it easier for me to resist the temptation of going to both which happens every year for me. Parking fees in Edmonton seem high but you get a good show. Parking in Calgary is the same and there's lots of it but it's not a great show so I feel cheated a bit more.
If the private company has a kiddie play area (a good one) and a giant curtain separating the beer gardens, strippers booths (one for the ladies and a 50 cents of every dollar in the string goes to the ASA), a huge number of vendors and the all of the manufacturers, then it would be hard to pass up.
I'll will probably stick with what I know and go to Edmonton.
so when you buy your trail pass which club do you buy it from
I don't ride in Alberta.

Re: Catarract/Etherington/Fording pass conditions 2010/2011
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Staged at Etherington today.
Trails near the staging area were a little whooped but not really bad.
The further away you got the better the trails were.
Must not have been too many longer tracked sleds out today. We rode some untracked fresh stuff on a few trails and it was pretty deep. Deep enough that I found out my track was too loose and started ratcheting. Quick fix
I was amazed that no one else had ridden these yet. Great day, lots of sun and only -1.
Careful when you come out of the staging area back onto the road. It's a little slick and with the weight of our enclosed, thought we weren't going to make the turn
You're sure on the ball!
Took me a couple of reads before I really figured out what you actually laid out in the above post. Atta boy!!!
Just for information about membership and numbers; I just finished a report for the Fernie Club stating some financials to various levels of government regarding grants, etc.
Among other measures like hotel stays, restaurant anecdotal's, trail pass numbers, the biggest tool we have is in reporting membership numbers. 5 years ago we had membership in the 50-60 range. In 2010 we were over 150 and this year we cracked the 200 mark. There was an increase of 20% from last year. In 2010 the out-of-area members were 24% of the total and this past year that increased to 31%.
Governments like numbers and fund monies accordingly!
Join a club and then come out and volunteer once in awhile!!!
