Looking at taking my short track from 121 to 136. My friends say, why not 144 instead of 136? I think I will lose lots of handling if I go to 144 on my Edge! But the good thing with the 144, I won't get stuck in the deep. What are your thoughts?

Thanks in advance!

What kind of riding do you do - deep snow or trail? Keep it shorter for trails and longer for deep stuff
Me, I'd go longer, you won't regret it. You will have to re-gear but that's simple stuff.
Just too my other sled, 700 rmk, from a 136 to a 144 to a 151. Huge difference in the 151.
That's my 2 cents

No Question,144 all the way.Even around here you find deep enough snow that the little extra track will be a bonus. My wifes 144 handles just fine for trails and ditchbangin!

Saskatchewan.....miles and miles of flat land...what do you know about needing a bigger track...lol....

For the record the bigger track gets us across the `miles and miles` of fields quicker to track down our dogs that ran aways 3 days ago... Us Sask. boys are always getting razzed about being able to still see you dog run aways for days.....

144 inch without question!! As far as a trail sled or Hybrid goes. I have a 144 on my Firecat and have zero regrets since I was making the same decision. As far as the handling goes there is a slight disadvantage compared to a 128" firecat in the tight stuff (pushing when on the trottle) but the pros outway the cons by a long shot when considering all riding conditions. Better ride quality in the bumps, better floatation in the deeper stuff and great hook up in all conditions.

If you are going to spend the time and cash go with the 144 hands down... even on a Polarious! :D Just kidding.. that edge skid is awesome.

You'll still get stuck with the 144"... just a bit deeper. :)

In my head
You saw me on my 136 and I have been really happy with it. I wanted the best of both worlds though. Better traction and ride but not a big loss of top end speed. I race that ZR too, come out the hole amazingly well with the 136 traction and speed is good. If all your looking for is better traction then 144 would be awesome, especially in that stuff we played in. 136 to me is the happy medium. Have had my 136 Craossfire in the mountains with no issue. Keep in mind that you can run a 136 with a 1.5 paddle or better and it will have just as good or better traction than a 144 with a 1.25. Something to think about. 136 fits on my trailer too....144 would not.

Well, I decided to go 136, mainly because we do alot of trail and lake riding, and will not be going to the mountains with this sled, perhaps when I purchase the Assault in 2010... I ordered the rail extnesions, picked-up a 136x15x2 inch track from Buck Lake Bob's and will be installing it at TKO's this week. I also purchased a 21 T sproket, and will loose a little top end, not happy with that, but hopefully will not get as stuck this winter up at Goose Tower.

Thanks to all for the advice and will post some pics when the project is completed.
