    Re: 2019 Yamaha 174

When the YamaCat stuff started didn't Yamaha say "in 4 years we will have an all new all Yamaha mountain specific chassis"? And the YamaCat stuff was given as an interim?

    2019 Yamaha 860 2 Stroke

If they make a sidewinder after this year the agreement obviously is lasting way longer than 4 years as it has already been 4 years this past fall, first yamacat came in 2014, the 18 sidewinder is the 5th model year on cat chassis, if they havent brought out their own chassis already dont hold your breath

    Re: 2019 Yamaha 860 2 Stroke

I had the opportunity to chat with a Yamaha product rep for western Canada last spring about the (what if) Yamaha came out with a pure Yamaha twin 800 DI 2 stroke in a all new light weight mountain specific chassis. I told him they would sell thousands of these machines. He really didn't care to hear that. He told me even if they had the political will from within Yamaha to go in that direction, they lost their 2 stroke engineering teams years ago. They have no one left he said. They would have to start from scratch with multi million dollar investments at stake. He said it would never happen. He said they would rather compete in the auto industrie. I'll believe it when I see it.

    Re: 2019 Yamaha 860 2 Stroke

No matter what you hear and read on these sites, well over 90% is BS. Yamaha "could" return to the 2 stroke world but why would they.
Its called market share secured. While the other three are fighting to compete and in most cases but not all struggling to sell all their current model and having to carry over models a costly endeavor. Yamaha doesn't have any competition in their market share (4 stroke), the other three all tried and failed miserably at it.
Yamaha is involved in many other things and have always done well, motorcycles, watercraft, outboards, atv's, automotive component development such as EFI, musical instruments and so on. The sled part of their business is a part of numerous others that make Yamaha who they are today.
While some western rider's have wishful thinking, Yamaha small market in the west is solely owned by Yamaha and in the east Yamaha has a significantly larger market but more importantly has NO competition again. What they do have is true loyal fallowing of customers throughout the west and east.
If you want a 2 stroke, there are 3 other's fighting in the corner for your business. If your a 4 stroke fan and want a 4 stroke, look no further, there is no one but Yamaha.
Very smart on Yamaha, they own their market and that secures their future, can't say that about those other 3.
So dream on about a Yammi 2 stroke, it ain't happening as the 4 stroke sled business is just too good....no competition.
