Peas are mixed Johnny depending on where they are located. Have heard of 9-38 so far depending where your farm is located. Just 2 miles north they have had more than double the rain we have had because of storms. Ours are running anywhere from 15-22 so far. They are half a mile apart. No mud worries here dragging on the headers. Lol

Usually see a range of 6-10 inches on an average. The oldtimers say if you can get 6" at the right times you can have a bumper. I heard some women have said the same. Haha!

No rain till end of june, then the taps opened up and some crops have had 13 inches plus and the rest 6-10 crops are very late canola still 10-15 days to get swathed and just starting to spray some wheat, had some frost in the area last week some guys got -4 so they got crushed we only got -1 and seems were ok

Outdoor weed crops in BC aren’t doing that good. Cool weather, minimal sun and some hot sun confuses them. Bud rot forming early. You may have to harvest what you can and some will go to waste.

Just finished our dryland canola (233p/invigor) last night. Swath looked like 35bu/ac but it was only 18bu/ac. Had 4 inches of rain but subsoil moisture is pretty much zero.

We had a really bad experience with straight cutting about 10 years ago. Haven’t tried again since.

The new varieties now are so much better. Was it from shelling Johnny? Or tough feeding it?

Shelled out bad and snapped the rotor belt. Took 3 days to unplug. This was back when we were growing for a seed company.

Looks like another week to two before we start desiccating around here. With the lack of sun or heat things just are not progressing. I have to say I'm a little worried about the timing of this crop. We are pricing equipment to speed it up when we do get going.

Sold the swather this year as I haven't used it in two years. We have gone to 40ft straight cut headers. I find that Im 5-10 acres/hr faster then swaths. Could be the swaths or operator that slowed us down but I couldn't go fast enough to match the straight cut speeds. We will average about 15-20 acres/hr straight cut. All pod shatter of course. Learnt that lesson the hard way when a storm took a 60bus crop to 20bus over night.

I have lost more canola in the swath then any other way. The joy's of living in windy southern Alberta. The pod shatter resistant canola has been a good fit for our operation. We are caught up on combining (only have five to six days left) and are currently seeding some fall rye.

Who has grown truflex canola this year?
Mine is missing so many pods I'm sure it will barely make half of what was advertised and it had a perfect year here with 7" of rain.
Is it just me or do we need to be giving monsanto an earful?

I did some test plots with truflex being on of them, we were very dry but the plot seems to be the same as the others but its a bit behind in maturity

What swather header size vs the straight cut header size?

I have often thought it would be faster straight cutting canola cause there would really be no piles to slow down for and it it pretty much all thrashed before it hits the feeder housing.

Farmers in Canada are legally allowed to grow up to four plants each. On a good year, it’s possible to earn $500-$5,000. Why not? Beer money!
Might be hard to convince a 75 year old farmer but times are a changing! Heck, them old guys prolly been doing it for 40years already!
