Ok let's talk 2 stroke oils

Do you know the difference between a 50 to 1 two stroke oil and a 100 to 1 two stroke oil?

Nope - not mix ratios - we are talking - why does this jug of amsoil saber say 100:1 on the front of it in huge numbers? Do you know why?

A 50 to 1 oil is 50% fillers and 50%lube - a 100 to 1 oil is 100% lube with zero fillers - hence the reason 946ml's of amsoil saber oil is $16cdn @ napa

How much of a difference that it make? Any noticable improvement from the engine? Or just better piece of mind?

It's a better oil for extremely abusive 2 stroke engine treatment - hopped up jet skis in the southern US run them at 100:1 at sea level reaching rpms above 8000rpm high outdoor ambient air temps - have high levels of humidity and heat under the hood - are under high loads then see high free spin no load situations when they Huck it off of huge waves

If you have a 2 stroke snowmobile it sees somewhat similar abuse just not the high ambient air temps - if you have a boosted 2 stroke - if you run a 100:1oil you don't have to mess with the ECU to crank up the oiler

That's how I read it.

100:1 oil means it's safe to premix for use in a 2 stroke engine at a ratio of 100 parts fuel to one part oil.

Then there are alot of 50:1 oils.

And then none synthetics at even higher ratios.

I guess you could say if you mix a 100:1 oil at 50:1 you might get better coverage.

Still don't know if any of these oils are rated for direct injection.

Only oil I could find any good data on or reviews was Motul Snowpower, Amsoil Interceptor and Liqui Moly.

I personally just run whatever the dealership tells me to use and then they fix the engine after it blows up after 1500miles (which it does every single time on every single sled).
I agree, I think it is in the best interest of the manufacturer to supply the best oil package possible to prolong the life of their engines. Otherwise the warranty claims could be out of control.

I don't think I would ever risk running a different oil than what is recommended.

Ah yes the good old fashioned "What 2 stroke oil is best?" thread, we were due for one of these. Every oil manufacturer claims their stuff will make your engine last forever, make way more horsepower and convince your wife that sledding is a cheap sport... Run what you like, I run XPS with zero issues as do many other people I ride with. It also comes on sale before every season as a bulk sale, bonus!. But to say that oil brand X is the answer to all of a 2 stoke's problems is a bit of a stretch...

Absolutely - I've got a boosted xm with 5100kms on it - xps the whole time - I've only just recently found out about the shellbourne oil - still learning about it - I want to test this out somehow - I thought about buying 2 leaf blowers 2 stroke and run one of em on xps oil mixed at 100:1 and the other leaf blower running the shellbourne oil at 100 to 1 and see which one piles first - I'm trying to find out for sure that xps is 50:1 oil - I really shouldn't be saying it is 50:1 oil till I see something in writing - it's super hard to find info on some oils - I'm still trying to figure out exactly why there is 50:1 oil and if the 50% non lube part of the 50:1 oil is just for volume so they can charge $16+/L for half oil and half fillers or whatever you want to call it - I don't know what else to call it - maybe their is a few more scientific names for it - I'm gonna see if I can CSI get to the bottom of this

I’ve noticed you bring up the south quite frequently. How about something the south doesn’t have that we do. -5, -10, -20 deg temps. Cold starts. I use amsoil dominator in everything. To each his own I guess.
