Are there any places to buy rough clear red or yellow cedar for a mill in Alberta. I ask for a mill hoping for a cheaper price, but if anyone knows anywhere else to get clear cedar for a decent price let me know. Thanks.

Miller Lumber Inc is a good choice. I bought a bunch of douglas fir from them, Paul is a great guy and is pricing is really good for a comparable product. I bought some 3x12 and 4x16 douglas fir beams and douglas fir decking for my house and really happy with the product. They are a BC mill but shipping is $100 and depending on your order size could be included.

Best bet is first finding a cedar log, then have someone cut it up for yah. No seriously. Most of our markets won’t take any logs under 10’6”. So old logging sites or maybe call a local logger to see if there is some scraps around. Paying for someone with a band mill or even an Alaskan mill could cut this up for you.
cedar is one of the most expensive woods and finding clears....well that might be tough depending on the size of board. Old growth or something off the coast if your looking for big clears.
good luck, it will be the cost of transportation that will drive the price up, I’d be happy to give you a few cedar logs but the drive will kill you.

Cedar clear is going for $4k - $5k per thousand, maybe a bit less rough. Try windsor plywood if they don't have it they should point you in the right direction. If you need a lot you'll probably need to order out of BC. Try R. Lang or Joe Kozek in Revelstoke.

I'm in the market for 18k ln ft of WRC 4" t&G. Thanks for the suggestions of mills. I'd rather buy direct than the big box store.

Not that I can help with info on cedar boards, but without being involved in carpentry much at all I didn't realize that Cedar was so damn expensive. I've never bought anything made of cedar in my life.

I guess I'm a little spoiled though, as I have a free regenerating lifetime supply of cedar firewood. Cedar is all I've burnt for years now inside the house and camping. Can't beat the smell, just wish it would burn longer.

A few times I've gave away a full, nicely stack heaped truck box full as gifts for friends and family. Never figured a load of wood would make a guy so happy.

Your best bet is to plan a sled trip to Sicamous and place an order with Al at Hyde sawmill. I do it all the time. Nothing but crap available in Edmonton.

Didn't think Hyde cut cedar?

The small guys mentioned here likely won't be able to do T&G and the big guys usually don't sell direct but that's a decent order. Maybe try Downie Mill in Revy
