WOW. starting off on the wrong foot already. first the One at Frisby in Revy and now Quarts Creek In Golden. Not good people.

Lot of good information exchanged here. lets keep it civil though.

I wasn't there or in the mountain yet this winter but I am keeping an ear to the tracks and am not liking what I'm hearing. Had a hardon a cat couldn't scratch hearing of all the awesome snow this early in the season. Getting a limp noodle reading these posts.

Might be time to reflect on last years tragedies and re-evaluate our priorities. Take this thread to the hills with you each and every time you ride. Read it and then stop and think, do I want to be the start of yet another thread like this.

Re: Quarts creek

I was there and watched the whole thing from the bottom with the 2 kids we had in our group . There were many things that were done wrong by everybody that was involved from the guys in my group that were sitting on the shelf to the 2 guys that were stuck on the hill ,the guy that triggered the slide and last but not least everyone that went racing up there before the snow dust had even settled. We sat up late talking about all of this on saturday night . 3 of the 4 from my group that were sitting on the shelf had Air packs on and no one got them deployed thats how fast it happened and how little time you have to react. No one was seriously injured as far as from our group. I know that the guy that set off wont be doing that again. To the guy with the xp that got wrecked and your group I hope everyone is OK. I was the one on the red Apex that met you at the bottom of the hill .
PS. IF YOU WERENT THERE AND DONT KNOW THE WHOLE TRUTH SHUT THE HELL UP AND QUIT RUNNING AROUD MAKING SH*T UP. I was out riding Sunday and heard tonnes of people making outrageous comments about what happened. No one learns from fiction.:nono:
I think I was talking to you at the bottom of the hill when my buddies went up to see if they could help,(you were on a metallic red apex ?) you looked like you were in disbelief at what had just happened, I was too, pretty much crapped my pants.
The dude who cause that slide is a carless, I'm sure he feels bad about it, he should, he destroy'd another guys sled and almots killed a bunch of fellow sledders, the situation was 100% his fault and was 100% avoidable. That dude ran over another sled on his way down the hill, and he owes another sledder a sled, as somebody said above "sorry does not cut it".

FYI the guy that set off the the avalanche was not the boyfriend of the girl that lost her helmet. There were 4 different Nytros there so dont put everyone in the same group beacuase they werent. Lets try and educate people and lay off the threats .

I was there! I was the first one that raced up the hill to help, now if you think that i made a bad decision in trying to help the victims of that foolish event then go f yourself. I would like to say that i did not know anyone in involved in the avalanche but personally i would not have been able to watch from the bottom knowing someone my be dying. I have taken a couple avy courses in my lifetime and i would recomend every sledder to do the same. My fears are that if i get caught is there anyone around with the knowledge to get me out before its too late. Now for the the events that led up to this mess were ALL completely avoidable. The sledders that were pegged up on the hill, why were there more than one person stuck on that hill at the same time? When the first person was stuck that should have been an indicator that no one else should be trying to poke at that hill, if he needed help someone could have went up to help but the cardinal rule is one at a time! I dont even know what to say about the brainless actions of the turbo nytro rider whom i believe was with the Reddeer Yamaha group. You know who you know who you are, i hope you will read this post. You obiviously have been sledding before in the mountains this is not your first time hense the turboed sled, what kind of hero do you think you are trying to pull a hill like that above a bunch of people you did not even know. Like i said on the hill I would testify against you and your negligent actions if you would have killed someone. You need to stay home! I hope you remember which guy i am and dont come near me or my group ever! If you do i promise you will wish you hadn't. I have been sledding in the mountains now for 12 years and your decision to climb above these guys was the worst i have seen yet! I know there are no laws on the mountain only common sense and you have none. Heck, you almost killed your own woman. She was hit and lost her helmet so you gave her you touque, you are a loser! Stay Home!! You are jepordizing the sport for everyone else. Everyone else sled safe!

WOW....pretty harsh imo. how do you really feel? can't threaten a guy on here because he made a mistake .......can't tell how much experience a guy has because of his ride(the turbo'd Yammy)!!! Yup, huge mistakes by a few in this situation, but all we can hope is that we ALL learn from these posts!

Re: Quarts creek

Hey for everybody out there who wants to know the real truth about what happenned I am the owner of mountains edge and I was personally there, with my mechanic, we were in the slide, and noone in our party was responsible for the events that led up to or caused the avalanche. I think that it is very unfortunate that people/dealerships who were not there are making accusations of what happenned. There were several white turbo'd nytro's the hill that day. I can say that the sled that went up the hill and that is being blamed for causing the avalanche was not in my group and his sled was not loaded into my trailer in the parking lot, nor was it on my webpage.

I think Taminator was talking about riders riding up to help others get unstuck not the guys caught. We took a minute to go up just to make sure it was safe when the snow settled.

Re: Quarts creek

This bull SH&T needs to end. RIGHT MEOW!

My name is Travis and my girlfriend and i were 2 of the "victims" of the avey on Saturday. If you want the REAL STORY of what happened please read on!

I have been blamed for setting off the avey (in a post earlier on this thread). That statement is FICTION. Also, Phil nor any of the great people at "Mountains Edge Yamaha" had anything to do with triggering that avey.

I know this because I was sitting beside phil at the bottom of the hill when the slide happened. My girlfriend and I were talking at the bottom side of the hill beside Phil, Waiting for the 2 stuck riders to free there sleds before we would do any riding in that area. In fact, after 5 mins of sitting, waiting, a rider close to us started his sled and Phil told him "Just hold on till the guys get there sled unstuck up ther buddy"

I would like to publicly thank Phil. Phil was the first person to yell "SLIDE" when the hill let go. The avey made no "crack" sound. Phil Yelling gave me enough time to help my Girl friend start her sled (i think she was paniced and forgot to pull up her kill switch) She was able to pin it and get far enough down the hill that she only got tossed off the sled and covered a bit. I was also able to position myself away from my sled so i wouldnt get pinned by it. It only felt like a few seconds from when Phil yelled to when i was hit with a wall of snow.

After the avey, who was it that took control of the situation and started counting sleds and riders? Who was it that yelled to EVERYONE on the hill to look for the "buddies" they were on the hill with to be sure everyone was accounted for? PHIL!

Phil, thank you for being a leader out there! That thanks is from Me and my lovely grilfriend. If anyone else out there would like to thank Phil, Instead of wrongly accusing him. I think now is the time to do it.

It pisses me off soooooooooooooooooooo much to read this crap that other idiots have writen.

FACT= yes, a loser on a turbo sled went above 2 stuck people and triggered an avey.

How many white turbo Nytro's are ther on the hill on any given weekend???? More than 1!!! There were 4 nytros on that hill that afternoon. so dont go around shooting off your mouth about facts you cant back up.

I am happy that i am alive, I am soo happy that no one was killed that afternoon. Its ok to be angry when some one puts other riders lives in danger. We all need to stick together out there. Lets use our anger to help educate other riders.

If any one has any further questions shoot me a private message, Id be happy to answer any thing any one is wondering about.

glad to hear you and your g/f were alright, she looked super spooked. I was there when it all went down, good to see somebody from one of the groups chime in and set the facts straight, as our group was at the bottom of the hill not sitting on the bench. Guys from my group were the first ones up the hill to try help you out, and to scream at that dude on the white and red nytro.
I do not think anyone was blaming Phil from mountians edge for the slide, I guess since the "slidestarter" was hanging near your group, people have assumed "guilt by association" . I hope if you know the guy who started the slide, you can ask him to contact Mr Gaudet so he can help him replace is destroyed sled.

Re: Quarts creek

Stel town,

I am the guy on the red and white Nytro! I did not set off the avey! You guys came up the hill and started yelling at everyone about how stupid it was to go up there when there were people stuck. We kinda figured that out, because we were JUST IN AN AVALANCHE!!!!!!

When you started yelling at everyone abot testifing against the person who set it off, (without even kinowing who actually did it), I recall saying, "now is not the time or the place to be giving people sh#t, Lets get everyone off before another one comes down".

I can see how you might have been confused with me yelling back at you, Trust me, Im not gonna defend that "other nytro" guy. I was just more concered about getting everyone off the hill, not looking to see who to blame. It was a pretty intense time at that moment. I was not defending the loser that almost killed us. Trust me, I was just as pissed as anyone out there.

And thanks for helping digging out my girlfriend's sled, She was shaken up, i could tell because she said to me. "the guys that dug out my sled liked my new Boss seat" haha. Not usually the first thing you say after being in an avey. haha

Again. unless you can pick the person out of a line up, and be 100% sure you can prove that what you are saying is the truth. Dont type it on here.

And for anyone that questions what Steltown and his buddies did (racing up the hill to help out) dont knock them!! you never know how you will react to a situation like that, untill your in the thick of it!

i hope that clears it up for you bro. (i dont want to get my new braces re-aranged this weekend at the hill because of a mistaken identity) haha.

Re: Quarts creek

I just wanted to correct you regarding the sled description. It was not the white and red nytro, nor one of the black and white nytro's, it was a white nytro with a stock tunnel. I don't want my sleds, or my friend Travis's sled mistaken as the one responsible.

Anyone know this other nytro guy with the white sled? Sounds like he needs to explain his actions and maybe offer Jim something.......

Tell your sledding partners about this so that all others learn from these very fortunate survivor's words so that this DOES NOT happen again.

Re: Quarts creek

Glad to hear everyone is ok.
It has snowed more here in Golden this past week so it should be amazing out there again this weekend.
Good habit this time of year to stick to low angle slops and treed features when possible with high temperature gradients in shallow snowpacks.
Looks like some more snow on the way for Thursday / Friday, and a high pressure rollin in for the weekend. Hopefully some sunny skies!!
I think one of the biggest things to keep in mind when sledding these days with so many people out there is to not only think of what your group is doing, but to be aware of what everyone else is doing around you. We can only be responsible for our own actions, but must be aware that not everyone is conscience of theirs...
Be safe, ride hard, ride smart!!!

Yes, you cannot control others actions, but you may be accountable to others on the hill if your actions impact them as well (just like this scenario).

One of the absolute truths in life I know is this:

If you put my life in jeopardy, your life will be in jeopardy.

Re: Quarts creek

Whoa, easy boys.:nono: The nytro that caused it was riding near the Mountains edge crew but is no way afiliated with them. This is how nasty rumors get started. I personally know the guy that caused it and the whole crew at mountains edge, I will pass it on to the nytro that caused it that there is something that needs to be done.
Please don't start throwing names around without knowing what you are talking about especially dealers names as this sort of thing can cause major reprocusions for a small town dealer.
If you want to talk to the owner of mountains edge rather that bashing him on the net his name is Phil and the dealer number is 638-3885. I'm sure he will be happy to hear from you.

If you know this guy personally, can you explain to him the basics of riding above stuck sledders when highmarking? Maybe let him know how this can kill someone....I know it probably was unintentional, and he may even be a good guy....but a little advise and education is good for all of us. We all make mistakes, hopefully he can learn from this and help teach others as well.
