OK _ I picked up the horse supplements that Bioniche is going to donate and am wondering if anyone is heading out there in the next few days and could take them out to Sara???? There are 2 10kg pails and 2 1.8kg pails - both products can freeze so having in back of truck is fine.

Just a side note - these aren't the type of horse supplements you can sell to your buddies at the gym!

I know it's a strange comment. The media has been interviewing the wrong people - ones that are just repeating what they have heard from others involved. They haven't yet interviewed the actual rescuers. That is being remedied. Thanks go out to Dave Jeck, who has headed up this rescue right from the start. Thanks also go to the volunteer diggers (a small but determined group), and thanks to all those that care enough to help in their own way via donations.
thanks Judy.

I have been away from the computer for 3 days now. You may call me at 250-569-7337 and I will be home tonight. Those supplements may be sent in care of me to Box 729, McBride,BC V0J 2E0.
I can get them up there with Matt, and provide correct doses as well.

Sara - trying to get a sledder to bring out to you. If not I can ship greyhound. I am hoping someone will volunteer to take it from Edmonton/Sherwood Park to McBride. Greyhound would carge a small fortune to ship 25kgs. Good talking to you today. Alan

A few years ago a friend and I hauled 3 cows out of the bush almost 20 miles.
They were snowed in and starving.
We hogtied them and put them on a larger skimmer
3 trips and they were at the road.
I have pictures of the other 6 that didnt make it , but we got the 3 out.
Why not tranquilize these horse and do the same?

People just need to read all the comments before they comment. :dunno:
No offence kensmith69 input is a good thing.

Did I miss a comment somewhere?
I thought I might be qualified to make a suggestion as I have had dealing with this sort of thing.

Don't want to butt in but I would check with the vet on the supplements that you want to carry up to the horse. Just to make sure it won't cause any problems.

Amazing that this is coming from someone from Texas.
Thanks for the concern! It is surely much appreciated, obviously you are a horse enthusiast!! :D I am sure the peeps here are gonna do the best for the horse's health and recovery.
I would guess that the supplements would be administered after the animals are safely returned to their new home?

I believe it was mentioned in a previous post the vet didn't believe the horses were in good enough shape to recover from the tranquilizers. no worries Ken, everyone wants the best for these horses and the folks closely involved seem to have a good handle on the situation. we are all hoping for the best.....

Not much sledding down in your part of the world?

Bioniche Animal Health is big pharma and supplies veterinarians around the globe with GMP manufactured and tested products. Both Nutrequin and U Gard were used with the Rescue 100 horses in Sherwood Park under guidance and recommendation from Herbers Veterinary Clinic. The plan is to get these supplements started (vitamins, minerals, and calcium supplement for ulcer control due to starvation) at the top of the mountain, in case rescue efforts are halted (one big snow storm would set trenching back to step one). If the horses gain condition back quickly it will serve them well for evacuation and recovery. There are no negative effects to beginning supplementation asap. Good question however and thanks for asking.

I started reading this thread and haven't read the whole thing yet. I am a horse owner and used to be a horse wrangler and guide for a local outfitter for four years. In defence of the horse owner I know a number of people who have lost horses for months in the mountains. Knowing that the riding area in Renshaw is not that far from many of the hunting areas in the Wilmore Wilderness Park from Hinton and Grande Cache area and since hunting season has only ended less than a month ago it is very possible that the horses got away while they were put out for the night. Many people use hobbles (like a hand cuff for horses to limit how fast they can travel). Maybe these horses could not hobble that well and were turned out for the night and wandered off from the rest of the group. It is quite possible as I know of a few people who are very experienced horse people which this happened to. They had hired helicopters for days searching for the lost horses only to have the horses found months latter in good shape. Now I don't know of these horses but I am just saying a very possible scenario that many non horse owners may not know of.

I would like for the people viewing this thread to give there thanks to the people that are not mentioned much on here.
A big thanks and pat on the back for Dave Jeck, he is the Backbone behind this whole operation. He is up there working hard to get the crews going as well as Dean Schreiber and his sons. Dean was to be heading to Calgary with his family for Christmas and is delaying the trip untill this is looked after, Wow!. And all of us say thanks to all the others that are not mentioned here that are working hard to free these horses for Christmas.:d The media coverage recently is unreal as well. I was watching Global news tonight and it was on there. I heard they are going to McBride Tuesday and will be shooting some video on location.

This may happen but from the info we have this is not the case this time. I am sure the story will come out once the SPCA is done thier investigation.
